Dd finished school early yesterday (Friday is early finish) and played outside in the garden for a few hours. When she come in she said her throat hurt. I assumed it was because she was literally running around all afternoon in the grass, grass that dp had cut the day before. She always gets a bit sneezy and snotty after the grass is cut during spring and summer. She gets hayfever and other allergies.

Anyway, she mentioned her throat hurt a few times yesterday evening and again today but aibu to think that I don’t have to panic due to covid?

I know it isn’t on the official but it is a commonly reported side effect.

Her sore throat has not progressed since yesterday. She’s mentioned it a few times but says it only hurts a little (she’s a bit of a drama queen - the other day she sneezed once and said she had a cold to try get out to school 🤣)

Very well in herself. No other symptoms. Is running around, eating and drinking as per usual.

I suffer from anxiety. I panic about covid and the risk to us and others.

She had some Calpol and 5 minutes later her throat was better apparently (placebo effect for sure 🤣)

So yeah just act like normal? Obviously in lockdown so not got any plans during the weekend anyway.

Mine also has a sore throat.
Unfortunately it may or may not be covid.
Dc1 had never had a sore throat until last apr with probable covid. But since then also had one sept (negative test) and now. Also had a few hour temp in sept
Whereas dc2 5yo has never had a sore throat even since covid.

The rest of us all did have sore throats with probable covid. But we all do get one with ever cold anyway.
It's rubbish but i would advise considering getting a postal test pcr as ususlly my dc progress from sore throat to runny nose to cough within a few days, especially if you need dc back at school monday.

Tbh i widh they would include sore throat as at least then you lnow where you are ( and would feel less guilty about spreading it if it does turn into s cough or temp etc)

Your kiddo sounds fine, I certainly wouldn’t be testing but if you have anxiety & you can’t get over it, then just test her. Go to a drive through or walk in, results are under 24 hours at the mo.

Have you checked her tonsils? Are they swollen or white spots? My youngest has just had a nasty bout of tonsillitis shortly after she just started nursery! Like freshers flu for babies when they first start 😂

Both my kids currently have awful coughs. They’ve had repeat negative tests. Plenty of other illness out there!

my 7 year old started complaining of a sore throat at the beginning of the week, then he started sneezing loads and was really snotty and had a cough. i tested him for covid because he had the same symptoms i did when i had it, and his test came back positive this morning.

I've had several sore throats recently, they are a common symptom of many colds and bugs that are typically around at this time of year. I test twice weekly for work so can confirm there are plenty non covid reasons for sore throat. You could always get her tested if your anxiety is high though.

Thanks all. Her tonsils look fine when I had a look. I suffer badly from sore throats myself so if I get one without any other symptoms I would not test myself. I’m hoping it’s due to the fact she was rolling around in cut grass. Cut grass always flared her allergies but it’s usually runny nose and eyes!

I’ll certainly keep an eye on her and see what she’s like in the morning and re consider then.

When I went for my vaccune, there were big signs up asking if you had any of these four symptoms: Continuous cough, fever, sore throat, loss of taste or smell. As if sore throat was now added to the big three symptoms.

It probably is hayfever, but I think you should get her tested just in case.

We have one terrible col d here, I literally feel like I'm dying but it's my first cold in well over a year so I guess that's why I'm feeling it so bad. Seven off in my daughters class with it. I got tested an d so did she as we both have coughs and she has temperatures also but we are both negative.
