Any unpaid carers still waiting to book?

moominmomma1234 · 19/03/2021 14:39

My gp has told me they have put a carers flag on my record. I am unpaid carer of ASD child.
The book a vaccine website still does not automatically take me to the booking page. It asks if i am unpaid carer to an adult on the shielding list. I obviously tick NO as ASD children are not CEV. It then says i am not eligible.

I have been trying everyday for 2 weeks. My situation means if i become sick there will be nobody able to look after my child’s needs. If my child becomes sick he will need to be restrained/sedated to receive medical treatment.

I had mine 3 weeks ago, also carer for child with ASD. Put in my NHS number on the booking site and it let me book. I think it says something about being in receipt of CA as one of the options? Can you call the booking line, I think it's 119? Or book via GP? Hope you can get an appointment soon.

Lindy2 · 19/03/2021 14:47

This was on another post the other day.

carers.org/guidance-on-coronavirus/coronavirus-vaccine-faqs-for-unpaid-carers

Specifically it says:

The vaccination programme recognises that these sources will not identify all eligible unpaid carers.
Unpaid carers over the age of 18 who are not already known to health and care services can contact the National Booking Service atwww.nhs.uk/covid-vaccinationor by ringing 119 to answer a few questions to determine if they are eligible to book their vaccination appointment.

I'm the carer for my ASD/ASHD child and I was sent a link to book by my GP. I don't get carer's allowance so it isn't a requirement to receive it to book. Lots of carers don't qualify for CA as the financial cut off for it is very low. I am registered as a carer with my GP though, like you are.

I had my vaccination last week.

CovidPostingName · 19/03/2021 14:54

Tick the yes box and see if that lets you through.

manicinsomniac · 19/03/2021 14:55

Are you positive you actually did get flagged?

I have a friend with two children who both have disabilities. She was told she did not qualify for an early vaccine as the children are under 10 and therefore the 'nobody to care for dependents if carer is sick' qualifier is no more valid than it would be for any parent of under 10s. Not really sure that's fair but it was the call made at the surgery.

moominmomma1234 · 19/03/2021 14:58

Ok thanks, so because the booking website doesn’t accept my Nhs number, it maybe means my gp hasn’t put me into the system properly.

So i could try phoning the 119 number and asking them to put me in the system. I am at work now till tonight so i will try 119 tomorrow, hoping they are open weekends. I hope they don’t tell me i have to email my gp. I have already done that twice this week and I have not had a reply since they told me last week that they had put a carers flag on my record.

I dont want to tick the box as it seems like a lie, it clearly says carer of CEV people who have had the vaccine them selves (so adults not children)

I have been getting confused wether carers of ASD children under 10 are allowed. A quick google to carer charities say we are but i cant see that on the Nhs/govt websites. I dont want to queue jump if i am not eligible. I dont want to be turned away at the centre. That would be awful.

It's more that if you tick the box and it won't let you through still, it's a good indication that you haven't actually been flagged properly. If it does let you through, then you're eligible to book anyway.

Katie517 · 19/03/2021 15:06

Are you in England OP? As it says anyone who provides care for someone who is CV and then list the type of care. Just tick the box and book it. You will not get turned away at the centre and you aren’t que jumping. My centre are not asking for any proof of being an unpaid carer.

autumnboys · 19/03/2021 15:07

I am an unpaid carer for my ASD child. We’ve never applied for DLA and in any case I work part time and wouldn’t qualify for carer’s allowance. I had my jab on Monday. My invite came from my GP. I thought they were the ones doing unpaid carers, although it took a while for the definition to be finalised. I then got a separate invite from the NHS because of my asthma. Please do ring the 119 number, you are definitely eligible.

Dadnotamum72 · 19/03/2021 15:13

I had an e mail from our council ( presumably sent on mass to those entitled) basically saying if you think your entitled just tick yes to all the questions that let you continue.

sharkmart · 19/03/2021 15:25

Yes I just ticked the box to allow me to book. I have a DD with ASD so I know I'm entitled to be in Group 6, regardless of how the booking website was set up. They asked if I was a carer when I went for the vaccination, and I brought DD's DLA letter, but they weren't interested in seeing it. The only information they wanted was my NHS number and the booking reference number.

Likeindie · 19/03/2021 17:00

I’m in wales.
I am an unpaid carer to my son, he gets high rate DLA, has a blue badge.
Wales now have a book online for unpaid carers. I fill the form then the last question is do you help with specific care like toilet self care need to watch over them etc etc. Which I do, but it says if you care for a child tick not applicable so I do, it then tells me I’m not eligible for vaccine. I don’t understand.

EveLe · 19/03/2021 17:50

@Likeindie There's should be a follow up question - so you tick not applicable to the specific care needs, then the following question is

"Is the care you provide for your child significantly beyond what parents ordinarily provide for a child? Examples include tasks like tracheostomy tube care, airway suction, repositioning to manage pressure areas and care interventions such as respiratory physiotherapy. It may include intensive personal care such as daily washing and continence care and /or managing behaviours that challenge"

You haven't accidentally clicked not applicable to two questions in a row have you?

Alone97 · 19/03/2021 18:06

I had a text from my doctors to book and I had mine 4 weeks ago.
I have 3 children with learning disabilities and ASD.
Two of them are over ten, but not being funny most children who are NT would be able to be looked after by someone else if the parent is to poorly and not suffer to much.
A lot of children with ASD or other disabilities would find it very distressing having someone else looking after them and knowing there needs.
I think this has been handled terribly and they keep moving the goalposts!

Likeindie · 19/03/2021 19:44

@EveLe
No I only clicked not applicable to that one question and then it just says sorry you don’t qualify for a coronavirus vaccine at the moment.
@Alone97
I thought it might of just been me in thinking they were moving the goalposts. I’m glad I’m not alone in that thought.

My son is over 10, but I do everything for him bathe, brush teeth, help dress he also has toilet issues I get him up in the morning organised etc I am also on call to pick him up from school (sometimes it’s more than once a day)when his anxiety is crippling him.
I am the one that has to prepare all his food drink and medication, because he trusts I am clean. ( if that makes sense) if I go down with covid he will suffer.

Firstworddinosaur · 19/03/2021 20:51

I'm in exactly the same position OP. My GP surgery is looking into why I haven't had a text/letter yet. 119 don't understand and say because the child I care for isn't CEV then I can't book yet my GP is adamant. If I get to the bottom of it I'll let you know.

Sevensilverrings · 19/03/2021 21:04

I don’t know if it will help those of you not jabbed yet, but my local council Carers org (think name like ‘Cornwall Carers’) has sent out emails asking all Carers on their system to fill in an online form and they will have access to the booking service. You have to be registered with the local council Carers group though.(I just filled in their contact form and that was me registered). I had already been jabbed, so it didn’t make a difference to me, but maybe get in touch with your local group...it seems to bypass the gp and the national booking site main pages.

moominmomma1234 · 21/03/2021 19:57

I have phoned 119. The person said the child needs to be classed as eligible on the nhs website. I cant find the list he is referring too. He said i need to wait for local services to contact me to be able to book (I have been waiting over 2 weeks since telling my gp i am a carer.)

So i am going round in circles and it is right that i cant tick the carer box on the website until i can confirm that an asd child is eligible, and i cant find that info.

Maybe i need to be patient and wait a bit longer and maybe my gp just hasn’t got round to sending out the texts. I will email the docs again by the end of next week.
