Do I need childcare to get my vaccine?

Just wondered if anybody knew. The local centre have said they don't know and will come back to me but it's been a few days now. Forgot to ring them to ask again earlier.

Depends on how many children, if it’s one in a pushchair, then that’s fine.

KasparKat · 18/03/2021 19:38

How old are your DC?

Soontobe60 · 18/03/2021 19:41

Please dont take a child unless they are well and truly strapped into a buggy. It’s really not fair on everyone else. The centre I went to had carefully spaced out seating, we had to go through 3 different areas. It took about 1/2 hour all in to be seen, then we were told to wait in our cars for 15 minutes in case of reactions.

I volunteer at a vaccination hub and some parents bring a baby or toddler with them: no problem at all.

EnglishRain · 18/03/2021 19:45

One baby, 8 months old.

I can't find a slot when DH isn't at work and he can't book any time off until after Easter.

An 8 month old in a pram/wrap won't be a problem at all x

Hotcuppatea · 18/03/2021 20:06

I had my vaccine today and was in and out of there in 5 minutes. Hardly anyone else in there. In your position, I would take my baby with me.

CornishYarg · 18/03/2021 20:08

The two vaccination centres I volunteer at haven't had a problem with a parent taking a young child in with them. (We also had one couple with appointments at similar times who had to bring their children, but they just tag teamed so one went in and one stayed outside with the children, then they swapped.)

EnglishRain · 18/03/2021 20:12

That's great, thanks all Smile

I see people with single kids aged up to about 8yo, Q'd at local vaccination centre.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 18/03/2021 20:16

Yeah I’m sure baby in a pram / sling / push chair will be ok. Can you try to time a nap so that have it while you are there?

Getting vaccinated is stressful for some, so whatever you can do to keep baby calm would be appreciated I’m sure.

I’ve moved my second jab to a day when Ds (7) is at school after accidentally booking on an inset day, as when I went there it seemed no place for a primary aged child (very boring for one thing!)

Martinisarebetterdirty · 18/03/2021 21:34

My DP and children waited outside the centre when I had mine (we went there whilst on a family walk), they were invited in to wait, you’ll be fine to take the baby.

seepingweeping · 18/03/2021 23:10

I'm a bit worried about this because my vaccine is on a Saturday and I'll have dd2 and ds9 with me.

MRex · 19/03/2021 07:18

There was a toddler in a pram when I went and the mum went through, didn't seem to be an issue for anyone, people just gave her extra space for the pushchair.

cyclingtowardsbethlehem · 19/03/2021 07:26

DP took DC2 in the pushchair. No problem.

picknmix1984 · 19/03/2021 07:30

Don't ever be made to feel bad about taking your kids. Some people would prefer we slip back to 1890 where children were neither seen nor heard. Thank fully we live in 2021. ( probably the same crew as frown at mother's breastfeeding)

namechange63524 · 19/03/2021 10:18

Bring your child if you need to. Good luck op

Lubiluxe · 19/03/2021 12:23

Take your child and please don't worry about planning it for nap time like someone mentioned. Children are allowed to be heard. We aren't in the dark ages. Children are a part of society and if you need to take them then so be it :)

Crunchymum · 19/03/2021 13:14

We had to do a 15 minute post jab wait (they were actually handing out stopwatches Shock) so it wasn't an in and out jobby but needs must. Take your baby.

Soontobe60 · 19/03/2021 15:51

I can't find a slot when DH isn't at work and he can't book any time off until after Easter.

In that case, chuck it in the buggy and pop down. Good luck x

It’s not about children being seen and not heard, its about the practicality of having more bodies than the system is expecting. The appointments are timed carefully to ensure adequate social distancing is available at all times. If someone turns up with a couple of children in tow, it throws that out of kilter. At my appointment, there just would not have been room for children who were too big to be in a pushchair, and its almost impossible - and very unfair, to expect a child to stand still and not move for what could be 1/2 and hour as we had to do.
starfish4 · 19/03/2021 15:58

Spacing was tight where I had mine and you'd have struggled to have a pram and keep one of you distanced in the waiting area. If you'd had a pram the other side, baby would have been away from you with people walking closeby. I had a 15 minute wait despite a 8.50am appointment.
Might be worth phoning centre again before you go.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 19/03/2021 16:19

Me and DH had appointments 15 mins apart to swap over in the carpark for our son.

When we got to the surgery the queue was around the carpark so we went in together.

All was fine. They temperature checked DS as we went in and he was under strict instructions to hold my hand and not touch anything, which he did. It was fine honestly, take your baby
