From the BBC

BBC News - Covid vaccine: India shortfall behind UK's supply delay
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56438629

I'd always know India was a major player in the biomedical supply field but U hasn't know they were the world's biggest vaccine manufacturer.

It’s funny how this prime minister is happy to don sorted fancy dress costumes and celebrate ‘his’ great success of vaccination but now wants to blame everyone else as soon as there’s a hiccup.
A gullible electorate fall for it too.

We know this, the FT were predicting this drop in supply a few days ago, before VdL's latest comments.

twitter.com/SebastianEPayne/status/1371178161510170624?s=19 some FT analysis (see thread).

Thanks @Lockheart that's really interesting.

The FTs data and analysis articles are the best ones I see in the main media OP, I can't recommend them enough :) and they usually remove their paywalls for most of them so you don't need a subscription.

VdLs comments, combined with the drop in supply, are a gift to certain areas of the media but are in fact totally unrelated and a red herring!

It was predicted some time back at start of programme, but somehow expert views were ignored.

The BBC article raises more questions than answers.

I'm pretty sure India wasent part of the az uk supply chain.
Article implied uk did a deal with India a month ago for 10million.
Then it says India always been part of UK supply chain so why did they do a deal?

I haven't seen exact terms of of uk az contact.
We haven't published it.
Eu have published the eu one

Read we invested in EU sites as well as our own I assume Belgium and Netherlands the 2 eu sites for az.
Why hasent helix in Netherlands produced vaccines for the eu.
I can see just a little why eu is confused.
They told uk factories off limits not part of EU supply chain.
I don't think India was meant to supply eu the 2 eu factories were.
Whys Belgium still not providing and enough.
Whys Helix Netherlands not providing any to EU other than fact ema not authorised which i assume could have been done very quickly.
I gather India been supplying the vast majority of Europe's AZ stocks.

Is India having issues with production.
Or are the Indian government halting exports.
Is the serum institute now making EU a priority rather than uk?

@3asAbird a redacted copy of the UK/AZ contract is linked to in this article: edition.cnn.com/2021/02/17/europe/uk-astrazeneca-vaccine-contract-details-intl/index.html

Halix approval is expected on the 25th. It sounds (but is not entirely clear) that it is with the EMA for approval.

nltimes.nl/2021/03/14/eu-astrazeneca-vaccine-targets-hinge-ema-approval-leiden-based-manufacturer

It is, of course, possible that that approval may be delayed because of the blood clotting concern.
