Positive news from Israel about the vaccine for pregnant women

I was trying to post this on another thread that's just been deleted, particularly for @stairway.

News coming from Israel, where they are much further advanced in their vaccination programme, that the vaccine could also protect babies

I know a lot of women are concerned about the vaccine if they're pregnant, so this is really interesting.

And antibodies are produced in breast milk too, so also relevant for breastfeeding mothers who didnt have the vaccine when pregnant.

Thank you BIWI that’s very interesting.

It’s great news but I can see this been a bit of a double edged sword. I think some women will be reassured by this and others will now actively avoid it due to it passing onto their babies.at least for a while.

Why on earth would they want to avoid passing protection on to their babies? The vaccination of the mother produces antibodies in the baby - against the virus itself.

Why on earth would anyone want to avoid passing on antibodies to a very infectious disease? It does actually kill a few children and requires more to be admitted to hospital. It's not like you are passing on the disease, you are passing n protection.

We dont know how long antibodies last but it's been shown to be 8 months in some of those infected 8 months previously. So maybe you will protect your child for life.

Not something I’m going to have in pregnancy. If others want to, they are welcome to have it.

The same people who wouldn’t choose to vaccinate their children due to the newness of the vaccines.

That’s not my view but I’ve seen plenty on here and heard similar irl express that they wouldn’t take up a vaccination on their child’s behalf if offered.

Girlmama3 · 17/03/2021 18:17

This is great news. I’m 5 weeks pg and fully intend on being vaccinated.

But it is completely different if the mother's antibodies pass to the child. The child is not being vaccinated. Hmm
