Held it at bay from our workplace (elderly care) for a year, and now, on the tail end it’s in.

Loads of us staff and now some residents testing positive.

Feels silly but like a slap in the face after so much caution,

Aw that’s awful, I’m not surprised you’re feeling so upset.

Has everyone involved had their first vaccination a few weeks ago? That should offer some cushion against it.

BikeRunSki · 15/03/2021 19:02

You’ve done really, really well to hold it at bay for so long. Have any/many your residents and staff been vaccinated?

NotSure94 · 15/03/2021 19:03

I'm sorry to hear that. You've done very well to keep it out for so long. Hospitals aren't now under so much pressure and vaccines are taking some of the strain out of the systems and lending some better outcomes to those who have it, so I hope impact to your residents is limited.

Take care of yourself OP. x

lurker101 · 15/03/2021 19:07

I’m really sorry to hear that. If it’s of any consolation, since you’ve done an amazing job until now keeping it out, the Drs & scientists have made progress in treatments and vaccination. The vaccines should hopefully provide your colleagues and residents some protection from the worst effects Flowers

Rachie1973 · 15/03/2021 19:09

Most of the residents and all of the staff have had at least one vaccination.

My case is very mild. My poor DH is quite ill though

The care home where my BIL got to mid December and then had an outbreak. He found it incredibly sad especially as everyone was vaccinated about that time, sadly too late for many.

Hope you're ok. When did everyone have their vaccines?

Cornettoninja · 15/03/2021 19:24

That’s so worrying about your DH, I hope he turns a corner soon. Don’t hesitate to seek help or reassurance if you’re the slightest bit concerned.

I’ve had my first vaccination, second due this month

Most of us had them done early in the year

Bugger. You have done well to keep it out until now though. It does seem to be a bit of a pattern at the moment.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 15/03/2021 22:41

Obviously it's sad the infection has managed to get into your workplace, but hopefully the vaccine will act as a barrier meaning any positive cases are mild and can be managed in house rather than requiring hospital or god forbid worse. Take care of yourselves

Mindymomo · 16/03/2021 08:31

It’s really sad that it seems to be effecting a lot of care homes again at the moment.

annonnymous · 16/03/2021 10:10

My brother works in a care environment and a couple of residents and clients to have had it and some of the staff. He hasn't yet, despite not being vaccinated. They test twice weekly.

dropthedeadhorse · 16/03/2021 10:16

OP, just keeping your workplace covid free until well after the first vaccination will likely have saved many of the residents lives as their likelihood of serious illness is much less already so please be proud of yourselves for that.

Very much this.
HolmeH · 16/03/2021 11:39

@dropthedeadhorse - well said! The vaccine will undoubtably save lives in your home.

Bee2543 · 16/03/2021 12:38

We had a big outbreak in April but no residents since, we have had a few staff but it did not spread to the residents. Sorry to hear this OP, its quite scary as lots of homes recently have outbreaks. Still not adequate PPE in care homes either.
