Had covid in the last 3 months, had vaccine but got the start of symptoms again

What is the chances of me having covid again with three months and two weeks post vaccination?

My symptoms arent on the main three list and yhats how they started last time. I wont get a test until I have the listed symptoms as it's far more likely, as before, to be another virus.

However I have the exact same symptoms I had in the week before I lost my taste and smell.

In theory my pre loss of taste and smell symptoms wasnt counted as covid. My isolation and trace and trace was all about the first of the main three symptoms.

It's extraordinarily unlikely isn't it?

SixyTixts · 14/03/2021 13:52

You’re not protected two weeks post vaccination so it’s not impossible to have caught it again.

MrMeSeeks · 14/03/2021 14:02

If you’ve already been proven to-have had covid ( tested positive) Thought you were immune for 5/6 months from getting it again?

PuzzledObserver · 14/03/2021 14:06

The chances are low, but not zero.

It’s possible, though unlikely.

Get a test, isolate until you get the result.

notrub · 14/03/2021 14:09

it's far more likely, as before, to be another virus

So did you have covid before or "another virus"?

Borogroves · 14/03/2021 14:15

My friend got her second jab on January 25th so is fully vaccinated. She lost her sense of taste and smell last week so got tested and she has covid so it's definitely possible.

ConeHat · 14/03/2021 14:38

I had covid with a positive test before, but track and trace and isolation was from the day of the classic symptoms, so the period before of feeling fluey with no temp was treated as un related to covid. In theory it could have been unrelated to covid. It could have been another virus.

It was the only time I felt unwell. Before I lost my taste and smell.

@Borogroves that's really unlucky. I was hoping my natural immunity will protect me for at least five months, but as everything is so new no one knows for sure.

I didnt even know how I caught covid so my mind boggles how I could have had flu and covid while not seeing anyone in the same week.

I still dont know anyone first hand who has had covid except me.

I had covid a year ago but I had 3 or 4 resurgences for 2-4 days, usually after too much exercise.

HairyFloppins · 14/03/2021 15:33

Could it be just old remnants of the virus resurging?

I had Covid back in December and if I do too much my temp starts to go up and I start to feel a bit ill again.

ConeHat · 14/03/2021 18:22

I guess it could be a old flare up of symptoms. I only had it back in January. It's been a stressful week too

You can’t retest then, until 12 weeks past having covid as the test may pick up traces of the virus still in your system. I hope you feel better soon.

MrMeSeeks · 14/03/2021 19:44

But a recent study led by Public Health England (PHE) shows most people who have had the virus are protected from catching it again for at least five months (the duration of the analysis so far)

Labobo · 14/03/2021 19:53

I didn't know this.
Downthefarm · 14/03/2021 21:36

I think it's just the old virus and possibly the new symptoms aren't connected to a positive result. I tested twice and it stayed negative.

PreachyGreen · 14/03/2021 21:46

One of my colleagues had covid in September and again in January confirmed by PCR. So unsual that PHE rang her up about it. She actually thinks she had it in March last year too but testing not available then.

She said her symptoms were nearly the same each time, just a bit milder each time.

How easy is it to get tested in your area? I'd be tempted to lie and take a test if you're worried about transmitting it. We have had plenty of staff take tests before 90 days and no one has tested positive yet due to old virus (care home.)

Maybe you just have a sluggish immune system!

CrunchyCarrot · 14/03/2021 21:49

You may be one of the unlucky few who don't make antibodies. You can test for them, though. I had asymptomatic Covid back in July last year, i must have caught it when DP had it. He tested positive for antibodies this month, and so did I. So even after an asymptomatic infection, I have antibodies 8 months later. But antibody response varies between people and there's no way to know how strong your original response was.

ConeHat · 14/03/2021 21:50

I didnt know you couldn't retest within 12 weeks.

Hopefully my symptoms will go tomorrow. It's like a very low slow burn flu with no temperature. Pains in back that move about about and on off feels like my muscles are on fire. Headache I cant shift. Tired dizzy and generally fuzzy. So not enough to be alarmed. But this is exactly how I felt just before I lost my taste. I was searching for a new mattress and sleeping in the kids bunk bed trying to work out what had happened to my back.

I have had flu I can be certain of twice which floored me. It's not flu. Maybe it's really my matress - hopefully!

MadeForThis · 14/03/2021 21:53

Could be a different strain of covid.

PreachyGreen · 14/03/2021 22:00

You're not supposed to test for 90 days but if you are able to get hold of a kit they still process it or at least all our staff still got the results if they did a test in that period.

I think you have to decide based on your own risk factors. Can you isolate or not? Does it affect your income? If you have kids at school don't you have access to lateral flow tests?

doireallyneedaname · 14/03/2021 22:09

@SixyTixts You do actually have significant protection from 2 weeks onwards.

ConeHat · 14/03/2021 22:09

I was fine when I had had covid. I had a fever once that went after paracetamol and a cough day 6-8 but only when I moved. I felt like death the day after my vaccine. So I think I had a strong reaction to the vaccine. I just it's just all unknown really.

It’s healthcare workers that don’t have to test for 90 days - meaning the lft tests they do regularly at work.
They need to test & isolate if they develop new symptoms, along with anyone else who develops symptoms.

RedcurrantPuff · 14/03/2021 23:13

Surely it’s massively unlikely. Get a test though
