Vaccine and periods?

Hi, I had my first vaccine 2 weeks ago (Pfizer). I was due on Wednesday this week and so far nothing has arrived! I've taken a pregnancy test just in case and it is negative.

I wouldn't say I was a clockwork person and my cycle has always been between 36 and 40 days (ever since my periods started). Could this be a cause of the vaccine? Am I just overthinking.

I was supposed to ovulate around the time the vaccine was given but actually started much later...

I'm a little worried (I'm a worrier!)

Has anyone experienced the same?

I think I've come on today so about 2 weeks late. Seems like some of us are suffering the same. I may report to yellow card

Report this on the yellowcard system linked on the first page of the thread otherwise there is no data given to the state about this issue.

squiddybear · 23/03/2021 11:29

@Xenia think I wanted to eliminate any possibility of pregnancy etc before I did just in case. Now I'm certain I will do

I was one week late and I reported it.

Dontyouwantme · 23/03/2021 11:32

I’ve heard of this happening quite a lot

Thewiseoneincognito · 23/03/2021 11:34

🧐 anyone reading this who is experiencing the same thing please report it immediately.

RosyPrimroseDoll · 23/03/2021 11:37

Oh how weird- I'm the same!

Thewiseoneincognito · 23/03/2021 11:50

Everyone with this issue- I’m assuming you’re all under 55? Have you heard of this happening to other people?

squiddybear · 23/03/2021 11:55

@Thewiseoneincognito I'm mid 20s

I was invited to be part of a vaccine trial, and was told I could only be so if I was on a hormone-based contraceptive to ensure I didn't get pregnant during the trial.

Which suggests the vaccine was trialled primarily with women on hormone-based contraceptives and therefore might not have picked up this side effects.

JS87 · 23/03/2021 12:08

Viral infections can delay ovulation. Therefore it stands to a reason a vaccine could if you had it before ovulation.

CappuccinoCounter · 23/03/2021 12:11

I know someone on the vaccine trial who definitely isn't on hormonal contraceptives, as she is morally against it, so it's not the case that it wasn't tried on anyone who wasn't. She got both doses of vaccine (was unblinded already)

anything that means your immune system is busy can affect your cycle , but that's different to it specifically being the vaccine.

I've heard of people being both late and early, as well as people like me who were late/early but hours before the vaccine, so much more likely because of stress relief etc.

TheWristBoundLatexBitch · 23/03/2021 12:14

Astra 3 weeks late.

SheilaTakeABow · 23/03/2021 13:09

AZ, one week early; literally day after jabbed. Reported on Yellow Card system

Thewiseoneincognito · 23/03/2021 13:10

Maybe this is partly linked to why the US is questioning AZ data on the efficacy of their vaccine?

JS87 · 23/03/2021 13:21

I don’t think so. That is because they published the interim analysis from the 17th February rather than the primary analysis which will be published in the next 48 hours.

The vaccines are inducing quite strong immune responses, as evidenced by some of the side effects. This is likely to impact on your menstrual cycle for some people. As I mentioned above, your menstrual cycle can be affected by times of stress etc including physical stress due to immune responses. Most people should find their cycle back to normal within a month or two but it would be interesting to hear from people who had the jab a few months ago.

squiddybear · 23/03/2021 13:26

@Thewiseoneincognito mine was Pfizer...

Worknoplay · 23/03/2021 13:54

Strangely, I had covid at Christmas and I skipped my periods for January and February. Just had them now (ouch). But I'm 49, with Mirena coil, and I kinda put it down to menopause.

Ilovecreamycoffee · 23/03/2021 16:57

I am experiencing a heavier period since the new year and I got 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. I don't think it is related to the vaccine though. I am taking more supplements into my diet now so I do think it is related to that.

antivariant · 23/03/2021 17:02

Had Pfizer, was 2-3 weeks late with god-almighty awful period pain when finally came on, couldn't sleep one entire night due to the pain.

Would have been reassuring if late periods was listed as a side effect, especially since anecdotally this is being reported for Pfizer.

So I did yellow card to help future knowledge about the vaccine.

doireallyneedaname · 23/03/2021 19:38

Mines arrived so I guess not an issue!

mcvet · 04/04/2021 08:05

I had the AZ two weeks ago and now my period is ten days early and horribly heavy ; this could be coincidental of course as I'm at the age where I could start going into peri menopause but the heavy bleeding worried me a bit due to the slight association with clotting disorders 🧐

fizzyp0p · 04/04/2021 08:22

I had Pfizer and mine was bang on time even bang on the right sort of hour Hmm

It's interesting though my friend had AZ and was two weeks early.

Rollergirl11 · 04/04/2021 09:13

I had Pfizer 5 weeks ago. I’ve had the Mirena coil for the last year and haven’t had periods or any spotting for the last 6 months. However the last few weeks I definitely had spotting/very light period. I hadn’t thought anything if it but perhaps it is related to me having the jab.

Songsparrow · 20/04/2021 01:37

This is fascinating, I came in here to see if anyone was having the same thing. I had Pfizer and now just came on my period two weeks later despite being totally menopausal and not having had a period for nearly three years! Pretty pissed off about having no warning that it might be a side effect tbh
