Because I'm urgently looking for some reassurance. DC's dad had a close shave with severe covid last Spring. Never really recovered fully. Later in the year diagnosed with leukaemia which was very sad news. Anyway, despite having high levels of antibodies to Covid throughout this time he was told he had to be vaccinated, which he was - two days ago (Astrazeneca).
Last night he has the worst night with shivers, fever, nausea, headache and the worst symptom which is making him extremely worried is the severe pins and needles throughout his upper body. I've told him to ring the yellow card number or speak to a doctor.

Can anyone please reassure me that they felt horrendous but recovered? I'm worried sick. Despite the fact that we're no longer together, we have a good relationship and he's adored beyond belief by my children.
Thank you

I had mine a week ago, the first 24 hours were fine but then a fever, chills muscle aches, nausea and awful headache. And terrible leg cramps.

The fever only lasted over the first night but the rest have slowly disappeared during the week and now I'm just knackered and have a really itchy sore arm at the injection site.

I would have him call 111 about the tingling just in case.

SendMeHome · 13/03/2021 10:50

I had this. The worst was the two days immediately after, for me, but I had a temperature on and off and didn’t feel quite right for most of the week.

I was told that it is very normal and expected to have a pretty strong immune response if you’ve had Covid. My vaccine response was far, far worse than Covid, I barely had any symptoms with the actual virus.

I’m absolutely fine now. I did find it frustrating that the doctors couldn’t reassure me or do anything during me being poorly, but I think they genuinely hadn’t encountered anyone who reacted like I did. The Yellow Card scheme recorded everything but were unable to give advice. The vaccine authority board said they didn’t usually provide clinical advice but would get back to me within four days - never heard from them again,

But yeah, dreading dose two, but absolutely fine. I hope he’s the same Flowers

(Should maybe add that my arm hasn’t really recovered - it’s still itchy and very swollen - but I’ve got used to it and it’s not causing any bother really.)

Yes, I felt horrific particularly on that first night, but quickly recovered again.

The suggestion is that the second dose of AZ doesn’t instigate the same side effects, as your immune system recognises and deals with the invasion quickly.

DH had this last week. Almost exactly the same symptoms. They disappeared completely after 24 hours and he was completely back to normal.

SauvignonGrower · 13/03/2021 10:58

Yes I also had the tingling and quite ill for 3 days. I am fine now so hopefully he'll be ok. I have other close relatives that have also had a very strong reaction to it. I've also known people completely who had zero reaction.

Just read your replies. All I can say is thank God for mumsnet.
Thank you so much for sharing

Colleague (CEV) said he & wife both had reactions like that - but fine within 48 hours. Most people I talk to have zero effects from the covid jabs.

Is it possible that your DH has covid again? Fever is a symptom.

stirling · 13/03/2021 11:06

Send Me Home re arm swelling, a friend had a bad reaction to the arm, more a rash and it turned out to be cellulitis because apparently she wasn't swabbed clean before the jab. Took antibiotics now OK. Just incase your swelling gets worse... Ask gp about possibility of cellulitis?

Another here who felt awful for 48 hours, headach, chills, fever, nausea, fatigue and all over body aches. After 48 hours I felt better but still fatigued.

Whatalottachocca · 13/03/2021 11:11

Husband and daughter all felt dreadful but 48 hours later were fine. (When I say”felt dreadful”, I mean they went to bed with high temperatures and the shivers. It was all covered in the info sheet given when then had the AZ vaccine so although it was unpleasant, we weren’t worried). I had the same vaccine and had a mildly sore arm for 3 days. Don’t panic.

Thank you! Really reassuring :)
