Hi

Definition from gov website: The phrase severe mental illness (SMI) refers to people with psychological problems that are often so debilitating that their ability to engage in functional and occupational activities is severely impaired. Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are often referred to as anSMI
Hope that helps!

Copying from my previous post about Severe Mental Illness (SMI)

There are specific defined diagnoses which mean one should be recorded on the SMI register in the GP records. I’m not sure if this happens automatically if the diagnosis is recorded, or whether someone has to tick a box or something to add you to the register. Everyone on this SMI register should be in group 6 and invited for the vaccination.

These are the conditions that should be included on the register:
Schizophrenia
• Schizotypal personality
• Persistent delusional disorder
• Acute/transient psychotic disorders
• Induced delusional disorder
• Schizoaffective disorders
• Manic episodes
• Bipolar disorder
• Severe depression with psychosis
• Non-organic psychosis

I had my vaccine due to group 6 for MH. I have none of the above mentioned but have severe depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety and panic disorder, OCPD, OCD and have been sectioned (three times last year). So I guess the combination was enough for my surgery to consider me as having a severe mental health issue. I see a psychiatrist weekly, see my CPN weekly (she’s my care coordinator) and am under the crisis team out of hours too.

That's good @feckwit, glad its including more people it would be helpful for. I think really it should include anyone liable to be admitted as being in a hospital setting leaves you vulnerable to contracting covid.
