Is there a list for spare vaccines?

I know they sometimes have spare at the end of the day if people haven't turned up.

I'd like to get my sister, who lives at home with mum, vaccinated if possible. Mum has multiple health problems and is vaccinated. Sister doesn't count as her carer as mum still works - she isn't unwell she's just got a lot going against her (diabetes, high blood pressure and so on). Sister also works - as a primary school teacher so is in close contact with many people a day. I realise mum being vaccinated (1 shot so far) increases her protection but sister being vaccinated would increase that more.

I encouraged sister (in her 30s) to phone up the local centre but unfortunately she said they were really shitty with her and told her to 'wait her turn' and she's not prepare to phone anywhere else. Is there a way or is it a 'wait your turn' situation?

Unpaid carers can now book online, as if this morning I think.

It might be worth your DSis giving that a try, see if it lets her book.

I got a spare by turning up just before closing.

There's a thread about it, you might find info there.

One poster has said they didn't need proof... but that might be because they are registered as an unpaid carers.

Either way, it would be worth having a look.

Is she registered at the gps as carer? That may help.

Might be worth a chat with her GP - if they are running a vaccination centre they might be willing to advise her on the best time to call/turn up to see if they have any spare. The centre I help at finishes at 7 so there are usually a few people turning up at 6.30 or so on spec who may get lucky.

If you register as an unpaid carer you may well need some form of evidence eg a letter from the GP so probably worth having the conversation with them anyway.

It varies depending on the vaccination centre. The one I volunteer at phones round to try and get the next people on the list if they have any spares, the one my friend got hers at has a queueing system, where you can wait but there is no guarantee. Most places manage it so tightly that they would only ever have a couple spare at the end of the day. They monitor the no shows throughout the shift and only open the vials that they need.

You register at your GP as a carer, you don’t just walk into the vaccination centre and say you are a carer.
