Digestive issues with Hypermobility

Does anyone with any form of diagnosed hypermobility have problems with their upper digestive system? I was told several years ago that I have lots of hypermobile joints by a rheumatologist but nothing was progressed. On and off over the years, I've had episodes of pain and sickness which have been put down to sickness bugs or investigated as gallbladder related but no gallstones found. I've been taking Lansoprazole for several years which seems to have mostly kept it under control but I do occassionally have an episode which is short lived.
However over the last 4 weeks, I've barely been able to eat anything without starting with pain hours later and being sick. Sorry for TMI but sometimes when I'm sick, its food that I ate 6 hours earlier and even if I'm not sick, I feel like my stomach has just stopped processing what I've eaten. Dr Google has suggested a hiatus hernia but also brought up issues related to hypermobility. I've got a phone appointment with the GP tomorrow but wondered if anyone has this. These last weeks it's started to seriously impact my quality of life because I have some degree of pain every day and I'm reluctant to eat and I've started to loose weight at a faster rate than I'm comfortable with.

I have joint hypermobility but luckily no digestive problems with it.

Hope you get answers OP.

Yes I have EDS and GERD.

Gastroparesis is also sometimes a co-morbidity with hyper mobility. Also often people with EDS have POTS which can also cause gastro issues.
Ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist. There are several specialising in EDS and digestive issues.

Probably unrelated but note that if you take reflux meds it can affect absorption of b12.

Thanks for your replies. I'm already taking B12 supplements so that's covered but I've just had a quick read and gastroparesis does seem to fit so thanks for that @FatPatty. I've been doing Slimming World and lost 6 stone so far but have been eating a lot of broccoli and other high fiber foods and it seems like that's not a good idea with gastroparesis so I'll try and adjust my diet and see if helps. I suppose a hiatus hernia is still a possibility but either way, a referral to gastroenterology would be a good idea.

Sounds very much like a family member of mine.

Definitely push to get it investigated OP. It can be a big battle with these conditions unfortunately.

oo that is helpful about the b12. and the link to pots. bought an oximeter for dd who has asthma and played with it a bit... whoich now requires me to go to the Gp and ask about the increase in HR when i stand up... well over 30bmp increase...

I have HSD and gastric issues, but they seem to be held at bay by tablets.

I will llook up the other two things as dd is getting pain now.

I have EDS type 3, and as its a connective tissue disorder, yes I have digestive issues (along with bruising very easily). I've found staying away from meat as much as possible has helped me, although mine is more IBS style pain than anything else

Lansoprazole upsets the gut biome, makes it less acidic so bad bacteria start to flourish. This could be your issue as its taken time to appear. Try high strength probiotics and plenty of prebiotics. And yes EDS and gut issues are hand in glove I think, going gluten free has helped my relative with this issue a lot.

I found I couldn't take lansoperazole as it made me feel sick all the time.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their experiences. I've been feeling much better since following the diet advice for gastroparesis. Think its going to be a battle to get diagnosed though. GP was very dismissive and has refered me for an urgent endoscopy to rule out cancer. I'm not really concerned that it is cancer. This has been going on off and one for over 10 years so I'm hopeful that it would have come to a head before now. Very dismissive of it being linked to hypermobility but at least it gets me into the system and 2 of the gastro Consultants in Leeds specialise in Gastroparesis so hopeful I can get some answers.

A hernia is a definite possibility, especially as you said you have recently lost a lot of weight - obesity and being overweight are risk factors for hernia.

I'm no expert but I have hypermobility too and I think hernias could be more common due to curvature of the spine - especially if you have weak muscles in your core.
