Does anyone know what proof you have to take.

I am my mother’s main carer. She’s on the shield list not that she ever paid any attention.

I have no actual documentation to this as I’ve never seen any point. I have LPAs for her and because of income I’d get no benefits or carers allowance so I just never bothered.

Does anyone know what they ask for? System let me book but did not say anything about having to bring ID or documentation as it did for the frontline carers.

My son is autistic and I am registered at the gp as a carer to get the flu jab every year. I also receive CA. I got a letter inviting me for my jab, went a week ago. The woman manning the door at the centre was not keen to let me in though ("You're obviously not over 65!" and then wanting all sorts of ID etc), but luckily I'd taken my invite letter with me.

I booked one online with my nhs number. Then I got a letter from the GP as being registered as a carer for my son. Ring your doctor and make sure you’re registered as a carer.

On page 8 of this JCVI document from December states -

'Other groups at higher risk, including those who are in receipt of a carer’s allowance, or those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill, should also be offered vaccination alongside these groups.'

So I understand from that we are entitled to the vaccine as my asd sons care would suffer should I become ill. I think that's what its saying? I found this on a link from The National Autistic Societys twitter on December 30tg.

I booked my jabs online as my mother's unpaid carer, answered all questions truthfully etc. She's 80 and has been living with me since last summer, lockdown in her own home was very isolating. When I registered her with a local GP it was on her forms that I am her carer but I haven't changed anything with my own GP (I didn't know it was a thing and my surgery is infamous locally, I wouldn't bother to pursue additional contact or 'support' from them).

At 4:15pm today I received a text saying I'd need to bring proof that I'm an unpaid carer? My appointment is tomorrow ffs, I won't have this sorted by then. Are unpaid carers being turned away without documentation?

Please let your gp know. It needs to go on your medical records and you will get turned away if it's not.

This is part of my job and have seen people turned away.

crispinglovershighkick · 12/03/2021 17:53

Cheers Ruth I've just emailed using the Carers UK template, will see what happens.

I think you might have checked the professional carers box by accident? Just make sure you're registered with your GP as a carer.

When I went for my vaccine, the receptionist asked if I was a carer and if it was in a health or social setting, didn't ask for any proof just accepted the answers.

crispinglovershighkick · 12/03/2021 18:28

dinosaur no, I ticked 'yes I am an unpaid carer' (the following questions were about personal care and being the main carer) and got those texts this afternoon, no earlier mention of anything required aside from ID.

I’ve done the same. No mention of needing to bring any proof and the government website says no proof required for unpaid carers.
Firstworddinosaur · 12/03/2021 19:45

crispinglovershighkick you should be fine it sounds like their mistake. If you just tell them you're an unpaid carer and registered with a GP.

My cousin went for hers & no proof needed. She’s the main carer of our Granny during covid as she lives nearby & the rest of us don’t. She just ticked she was a carer, booked & they just asked verbally who she cared for. Vaccine done. This was at a large vaccine centre, not GP.

HolmeH · 12/03/2021 20:36

*and it’s certainly on no records that my cousin is my Granny’s carer. She wasn’t until Covid hit.

Just to say I had my jab this morning as carer to my son with ASD. I wasn’t asked to prove that I was carer (although, I had my son’s latest DLA award letter in my bag.) I just had to fill in a form about medical conditions and it did ask if I was a carer. Everyone was very friendly and the centre was well organised.
