Covid vaccine and pregnancy

So I’ve had 2 phone calls from my doctor over 3 weeks about my Covid vaccine (type 1 diabetic) I’m also 31 weeks pregnant / of course I know at the beginning they said it as advised for pregnant people to not have the vaccine however I know they back tracked and said it was ok HOWEVER no one can give me a clear answer about wether it is OK - has anyone here had the vaccine and been pregnant ? If I’m honest (I’m not an anti vaccer) however the uncertainty is making me think to just wait until baby is here to get the vaccine as I don’t think there is any evidence about pregnancy and the vaccine - I’m not after no judgment comments here just curious if anyone has had there’s whilst pregnant

Hey OP, the current guidance is that if you are CEV or at a high risk of exposure and pregnant, you should have the vaccine. You can also request to have it as a pregnant woman even if you don't fall into either category. This is because the benefits outweigh the fact that it hasn't been licensed (yet) for use in pregnancy. Pregnant woman aren't routinely included in trials, which is why it cannot be stated absolutely that it's safe.

I wouldn't say it's backtracking as such- just that this is a novel virus and a precautionary approach is always initially taken when it comes to new vaccines/medications in pregnancy.

Full guidance from the RCOG is here :)

@oldegg123 - Does that mean that as a pregnant woman - with or without existing health conditions that would ordinarily mean you'd be eligible for the vaccine already - you can just ask for the vaccine if you think you're at increased risk of exposure?

Yes exactly, I'd speak to your GP to explain you're at high risk of exposure as I'm assuming this isn't something they'd be aware of

To follow on from this I was told no to getting it in the end as if I did I would need some sort of meeting with a person at the doctors to make sure I fully understood and they did why I needed one whilst pregnant - I’m due in 2 weeks so once baby has arrived I’m booking in to get one
