Is there a definitive line on whether a PCR negative can overrule a lateral flow positive after testing at school

Sorry, I thought the got u-turned to allow pcr negative to overturn lateral flow positive if tested in schools. I saw it reported in the Guardian yesterday afternoon but I'm now not sure as no other reports of it and saw a different headline in The Telegraph this morning.

We've agreed for DD to be tested at school, but only if a lateral flow positive is followed up with a PCR.
Her mental health isn't great at the moment and she just can't miss any more school due to a potential false negative from an unreliable test.

My understanding is that LFT +ve at school is regarded as a real +ve and can't be overturned.

However, LFT at home can be overturned by a -ve PCR test.

Please let me know if that's wrong.

You’re correct. Though reporting has been a bit flip floppy because I think people have misunderstood. A positive LFT done at school, under supervision, is likely to be done correctly so the result is accepted and pupil (and household) have to isolate. A positive LFT done at home might be subject to incorrect procedure so can be followed by a confirmatory PCR test. If that is negative, pupil can return to school (but household must isolate in the gap between getting the LFT and the PCR jic). Downing Street confirmed this yesterday.

Judas is right I think, also confirmed by the Justice Minister on TV this morning that no U-turn will be happening etc.

Parents and older teenagers should have had the meaning of the consent and its implications explained properly beforehand.

Consent can always be withdrawn (if the lack of a proper information process doesn't invalidate it already).

From next week, tests will be done at home anyway and then a positive LFT can be overturned by a negative PCR, which is far more accurate.
