I’m not sure why I’ve been offered the vaccine

Had a text to book my vaccine yesterday. I did it straight away and feel very lucky but I can’t really work out why.

I’m over 40 (just) but my husband is a couple of years older and hasn’t been offered his.

I have mild asthma but not enough to put me in group 6 I don’t think.

My bmi is quite high but not over 40, around 30’I’d say but coming down - but I’ve not been weighed by a healthcare professional since I was pregnant so don’t know that that would be on record outside of pregnancy?

I definitely want the vaccine and like I say I booked it straight away, but now I feel a bit concerned that it was a mistake or I’ve jumped the queue somehow. Should I call my gp and double check it’s correct or will I just be being a pain if I did so (our gp receptionists are the very model of the scary stereotype!).

Has anyone else been offered the vaccine for either mild asthma or a bmi of 30ish?

its fine. You take the vaccine when its offered. They will get round to everybody, and the more people that are vaccinated, the safer everyone else is

Lots of our friends who are early 40s with no other health concerns have had them here - they're way ahead at some centres!

Please, just have it. Don't waste NHS time and resources by phoning up busy people on overloaded phone lines. Every person vaccinated is a step in the right direction.

If you've been invited just go.

Even if you assume it's a mistake, in a programme this huge, admin mistakes will sometimes be made - it's inevitable. It would take up more time and resources to go back and forth correcting it. Just go when you're called.

As pps have said, some centres and surgeries are way ahead of the curve on the vaccination programme. I know someone (apparently healthy - obviously I don't know his medical history) in his late 20s who was invited to my local surgery last week. He was surprised but went when he was called (I'm 31 and haven't been called yet but I live in hope!).

Agree with above- it's much more efficient for you to have it when offered than worrying about turns. You help everyone by having it!

MrsFrisbyMouse · 09/03/2021 10:44

The system isn't perfect and will throw up the odd anomaly - it's just a better use of resources to accept that and get on with the vaccination programme than it is to spend huge efforts manually checking all the data. Happens with any big data sets and you can prioritise efficiency over accuracy. The broader picture is mostly accurate and achieving its goals - just book in!

Just go!

Some gps are much more generous with the definition of asthma in group 6 than the official definition, that will almost certainly be why. Definitely take it.

AliasGrape · 09/03/2021 11:36

You’re all right and I’m definitely going to have it I just got an attack or the guilts about maybe jumping the queue but like has been said, the more people done the better.

I've heard accidental inclusion into group 6 has happened a fair bit. Maybe some algorithm or code for something the computer system got confused about. I know at least two people as perplexed as you. One decided to go ahead and book; the other decided to hang on till the time for their age group.
I honestly don't think it'd make a difference either way in the grand scheme of things, so if you've booked now, then that's fine. If you've got asthma it's probably good you've got extra protection Smile
