newnormal99 · 08/03/2021 19:51

3 cases picked up today in the lateral flow testing.

Large secondary outer London.

None so far, keeping everything crossed but also a large number of students so bound to be cases at some point.

Christmasfairy2020 · 08/03/2021 19:55

Ours tested last week each student was tested 3 times and their is 2k students in the school only 2 positives.

Christmasfairy2020 · 08/03/2021 19:56

Tested over 3 separate days

newnormal99 · 08/03/2021 19:57

We had one test last week but they didn't advise how many (if any) were picked up on that round.

OP posts:
Bigtom · 08/03/2021 19:58

About the same as the rate of false positives then Wink

QuidditchQueen · 08/03/2021 19:59

False positive picked up LTF. Subsequent PCR was negative but pupil has now to self-isolate anyway!
So what is the point of doing the ‘confirmatory’ PCR?

Zero incentive for anyone to test in the nonsensical process.

ineedaholidaynow · 08/03/2021 20:02

@Christmasfairy2020 were all students tested 3 times in a week?

No positive cases at DS's school

Swishswish26 · 08/03/2021 20:04

@QuidditchQueen the confirmatory PCR is only for home lateral flow tests and if negative then can return to school. For this reason we are using home lateral flow tests on DS before his return to school on Wednesday and he won’t be tested at school.

Fembot123 · 08/03/2021 20:23

Zero picked up today

RoseWineTime · 08/03/2021 20:30

None picked up in DD’s school Smile

Mumof3andlovingit · 08/03/2021 20:32

5 today. School shared this via text with parents, but we are in a higher rate area. However, considering we have literally just stepped out of lockdown we were hoping to see zero cases.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 08/03/2021 20:38

1 from this group of students (2 year groups) but we also have a positive in the keywrker group from last week that only got results on Sunday from a Friday test, so missing 18 Year 8s already!

HolmeH · 08/03/2021 20:51

@Mumof3andlovingit - not every parent can WFH. Some of those kids may have nurses or bus drivers as parents to name but a tiny amount of jobs that cannot be done at home & carry a higher risk of catching it & passing it on. Pretty narrow minded to assume all parents & children in your child’s school have been sat at home happily WFH for two months! Lucky you if you have!

SophieB100 · 08/03/2021 20:58

We've tested about 400 (another 1200 to go) so far - no positives so far. Good news.

Christmasfairy2020 · 08/03/2021 22:08

@ineedaholidaynow yes

Christmasfairy2020 · 08/03/2021 22:09

@Whyarewehardofthinking at ours if one student has been sat next to another their is 2 options. Said child whom was sat next to positive either isolates for 10 days or gets pcr test at school daily. No need to close classes etc

ineedaholidaynow · 08/03/2021 22:10

Aren't the tests meant to be taken 3 - 5 days apart?

Poundaminute · 08/03/2021 22:12

Considering doing the same, although I have heard there may be a U-turn on this ridiculous plan.

Christmasfairy2020 · 08/03/2021 22:13

Ignore me sorry it was 2 last week and 3rd today

How many cases in your child's secondary school?
notrub · 08/03/2021 22:22

The way they're doing it these numbers are a bit meaningless.

LF tests are about 50% likely to pick up asymptomatic infections
www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4848

False positives of about 0.3% accordig to gov site
post.parliament.uk/mass-testing-for-covid-19-january-update-on-lateral-flow-tests/

So in 1000 kids if you had 4 actually infected, LF tests would show 2 true positives, 3 false positives and 2 cases missed.

AgnesNaismith · 08/03/2021 22:23

None so far!

lljkk · 09/03/2021 06:15

No idea. Baffled how any non staff get this information

newnormal99 · 09/03/2021 06:22

@lljkk

The school shared it with parents!

Bit of a stupid response? Of course I’m aware not all parents have been WFH. I’m one of those parents.
School rates is a reflection of community transmission. Lockdown would have suppressed covid rates in general within the community regardless of some parents still working outside of their homes. This is apparent by local data. Rates have gone down almost everywhere.
5 cases positive yesterday is actually 5 times what you would see in this school per week pre lockdown.
The fact that there were 5 cases after testing only one cohort of students, suggests that pre lockdown there must have been a much higher rate within school and these cases possibly went undetected (asymptomatic)
