From Guarduan

Vaccinated Americans allowed to meet indoors
Fully-vaccinated Americans can gather with other vaccinated people indoors without wearing a mask or social distancing, Associated Press reports.
The long-awaited guidance from federal health officials said that vaccinated people can come together in the same way with people considered at low-risk for severe disease, such as in the case of vaccinated grandparents visiting healthy children and grandchildren.

Am pretty sure they could legally meet indoors before - what has changed is guidance . There is zero discussion about unfair social freedom rules for the vaccinated as a result.

GoneCrazy · 08/03/2021 22:39

All my American friends and family been meeting indoor for ages!

PickAChew · 08/03/2021 22:42

It's completely dependent on state, isn't it? I know Texas is a free for all but my friend in West Virginia has been living a pretty socially distanced life and will still be wfh for the rest of the year.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 08/03/2021 22:43

All my friends in America have been doing this for months already.

Cookerhood · 08/03/2021 22:48

Good for them. Very sensible.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 09/03/2021 04:28

Plenty of us have not been mixing. In the last year I've met up indoors with one set of neighbours and one other family. We're still wearing masks everywhere, pretty much.

I'm 51 with no health issues and expecting to be fully vaccinated by mid May, and am looking forward to life getting back to normal.

FromEden · 09/03/2021 05:27

Yeah there was never a rule against meeting people. everyone is meeting up indoors and have been for ages. Most places are pretty normal now.. Restaurants for example have been open continually where I am since May, with indoor dining. Casinos, bowling alleys, bars, cinemas all open. This advice is pretty pointless

Delatron · 09/03/2021 09:05

Good for them. Meanwhile over here it’s still against the law to see our parents inside our own homes. Even if they’ve been vaccinated. Madness

notrub · 09/03/2021 09:48

The US and the UK are quite different when it comes to covid.

The US is totally unable to eradicate the virus, or even suppress it to any firm degree. The political structures over there make it impossible to implement any national measures and inter-state travel can't be restricted so the whole nation is doomed by the behaviour of the worst state(s). Furthermore the anti-vax movement if considerably more powerful. Basically, the old folk in america are now as protected as they could possibly be- no point in restrictions that would have to be permanent.

In the UK, we can quite easily get to a place where the risk is gone almost entirely, so bit dumb to slacken restrictions early and lose this opportunity. I mean not only are the vaccinated still at SOME risk, it would be impossible to police if some people are allowed to mix and others aren't, meaning EVERYONE would start mixing again.

lljkk · 09/03/2021 14:02

We're an inter-connected world. If covid is widely circulating in any high income country then it will end up widely circulating in all of them -- unless the Draconian measures are kept up.

HSHorror · 09/03/2021 14:23

Presumably fully vaccinated.
Which there arent many here.

It wont be that long till the 30/40s have had a dose

BritWifeinUSA · 09/03/2021 14:26

We were never banned from meeting indoors.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 09/03/2021 14:55

Although interstate travel cannot be banned, it has been made quite difficult by states that don't want people from high-risk states arriving. For example, my state made it illegal for hotels to rent rooms to people coming from most other states for a while. Similar with AirBNB/VRBO. They then switched to requiring people arriving to either have negative Covid tests or to quarantine.

We were planning to drive DD back to university in January, but we could not get any overnight accommodation in any of the states between where we live, and Pennsylvania, meaning we'd have to do an 8 hour drive on the first day.

My state is loosening the restrictions now, but retaining the right to continue to target travellers from particular states with high Covid rates, which is clearly aimed at travellers from states like Texas.

Bollocks

That's what herd immunity is for.

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/03/2021 15:32

My state is wide open, but still many people, including DH and me, have been observing safety precautions. We have limited contact with other people to a bare minimum and I have been working from home exclusively for a full year now. But now we and my brothers and their spouses have all been vaccinated and we are planning an indoor get-together. I'm still not ready for in-door dining in a restaurant, but lots of restaurants have outdoor dining so we are looking forward to that as well.

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/03/2021 15:36

I should also add, there is still a lot of mask-wearing out in public, and many, if not most, businesses require masks indoors.

Delatron · 09/03/2021 15:53

So in many states it has been left to individuals to make their own risk assessment and many are still being cautious. Interesting.
