Masks for secondary school-recommendations please

My dd (12) complains her chest goes tight and her nose runs when wearing the 3 layer surgical type masks and would like washable ones. Are these any better with regards to overall comfort? Can anyone recommend any please? Thank you.

FFP2 washable but they are much tighter and thicker than surgical.
How long has she been wearing them? Might it be she's not used to them yet? Surgical are the most lightweight and breathable.

Also many schools won't accept cloth. My and dd's school only accepts FFP2 or surgical.

We use these. They have nose wires which are very helpful if you wear glasses. I haven't heard of any schools insisting on surgical masks. They all use cloth ones in my borough as far as I know.

My son likes these ones as you can adjust the fit on the straps

She's not had to wear them much as she's been shielded with me recently (to protect me) and has hardly been in school at all this past year. They will be wearing them pretty much all day at school when they go back. She's been fine when wearing them with me when needed but isn't keen. I'm sure she will get used to them. I'm not convinced that cloth ones are any good but probably better than nothing. I'm glad they are getting twice weekly tests now and that infection control is going to be better in school.

I agree that is happening.

and that infection control is going to be better in school.

Apart from wearing masks in class for the next few weeks, how do you think that 'infection control is going to be better in school'?

Still no social distancing in school or on school transport. Still massively shared toilets, and insufficient sinks for regular handwashing. Still windows that don't open. Still no funding for sanitiser or extra cleaning. Still only supposed to be 'close contacts' that isolate if there is a positive case, based on distance and not acknowledging the idea that the virus can be airborne.

Mine wore some M&S adult ones (5 for £7.50) that they said were alright. They have a toggle to adjust the tightness.

Their school is insisting on cloth ones and they find the disposable ones much easier to wear.

My son likes the tesco ones. They come in a pack of 3 for £3.50

fryscornishdelight · 08/03/2021 19:24

My comfiest reusable masks are from Gap. Pretty good value, too.

We use the Portwest CV33 masks (issued in work) and I also bought some for home use. Comfortable and adjustable.

@cantkeepawayforever the school have been fantastic with infection control. They are strict on hand sanitizer, masks, one way system, no mixing of heat groups, separate lunch areas and times, seating plans for contact tracing. Masks are to be worn all day now so that will hopefully improve things even more especially as staff are wearing them too. I'm not fooled into thinking schools are safe but they are taking as many measures as they can.

However, you say getting better in school.

Obviously all these things - except mask wearing in class, because it was specifically advised against - are exactly the same as they were in December (and the ill-fated single day return in January).

The ONLY change in terms of infection control in secondary schools is masks in classrooms as well as in public areas. There is no change at all in primary schools.

@cantkeepawayforever

Why don't you post this on either another thread about safety in schools (there are eleventy billion) or start your own?

The OP is asking advice about comfortable masks, no need to hijack with other agendas.
