Childminder and Covid Vaccine

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/03/2021 12:43

My childminder is refusing the vaccine. She minds my youngest all day (EYFS provision). I know I have no right to expect anyone to undertake medical procedures they dont want. Full stop.

I am curious as to whether this will have any long term effects. Will her insurance cover if she needs to self isolate due to exposure or catches it and gets sick? Or will I pay? She is eligible for the vaccine now, and its shown to reduce transmission, so her being vaccinated will reduce the likelihood of covid spreading in her home.

What would you think if your CM refused the vaccine?

I'd be more worried about what it says about her judgment (unless she has a valid reason) than the practicalities of it tbh.

To be brutally honest unless there was a real reason for her refusal ie severe allergy I would find another childminder. In my opinion it’s selfish to not have it and in her career as someone who cares for others it is even more selfish.

I wouldn’t be happy with that at all. Both responsibility wise and her reasons for not having it, if they are not due to medical advice

I am.

Silly of her to tell you about it.

Her insurance is unlikely to cover her if she gets sick unless she has a specialist policy for income protection, and that will depend on the wording.

Dexterslab · 08/03/2021 13:00

I'm a childminder and insurance doesn't
Cover if we have to self isolate due to track and trace or having the virus ourselves, we just have to suck it up and not get paid unfortunately. So in answer to that question if she can't open you don't pay her. Every childminder I know is waiting for the vaccine, we are in such close contact with our little ones most can't wait!

Incogweeto · 08/03/2021 13:00

I’d find another childminder too.

Others I know are in this same boat. I wonder if it will become a question potential new mindee parents would ask a CM about.

I'd give her a month or so to work through thoughts; some people feel nervous but are more likely to get vaccinated in coming months.
