Holiday in 2021??

We had a holiday booked for summer 2020 which we moved to 2021. It’s early may so going to cancelled again.

We have three options, full refund, move holiday to later in 2021 or move to summer 2022.

Pros for 2021, it’s cheaper as we will have a child over 2 in 2022 so have to pay for them. We could really do with a break (like most people). It’s to spain who should have 70% vaccinated in the summer.
Cons We will probably not be vaccinated or have only had one as we will be in the 20-30 age bracket so we might have pay for a private Covid test (adults only as children are currently exempt)

If we moved to 2022:
Pros hopefully Covid should be under control, less restrictive
Cons more expensive as we have to go school holidays only and pay for our youngest. We are also talking of ttc our final and 3rd child but wouldn’t go away while pregnant so would have you put that on hold which isn’t ideal

We wouldn’t book any holiday it’s just because we already have one and money off we feel like we should make the most of it.

Anyone booked a holiday for June / July 2021? Or is this crazy??

I’d have a full refund.

lovingmyppe · 06/03/2021 20:31

Can you get a full refund easily? My impression was that you needed to wait for the airline/travel company to cancel first?

Freezeboy · 06/03/2021 20:33

@lovingmyppe yes they have contacted us already so super easy to get a full refund

I would go later in 2021. We've booked for August. We have arranged the holiday in such a way that we wouldn't lose too much £ if it all gets cancelled. I wasn't going to book anything but we had a rush of blood. It's lovely to have something to (possibly) look forward to.

Florelei · 06/03/2021 20:52

I’d take the refund and just get a late deal. We have a trip booked to the USA in late October and I’m hoping it does go ahead but I’m not 100% hopeful!

I'd book for later this year. We've got a holiday to Portugal moved from October 2020 to May 2021 then to October 2021. I'm pretty confident it's finally going ahead but will take a view in early September and push on again if needed. I really want to go away this year so fingers crossed.

DollyParton2 · 06/03/2021 21:06

I’d also book later this year. We’ve got 3 weeks in Spain in August , I’m really confident it’ll go ahead. All this room and gloom and scaremongering from some many when it’s nearly half a year away and the majority of adults in this country will have been fully vaccinated by then.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 07/03/2021 08:56

I’d take the refund and book something else when it’s more settled.

BlusteryLake · 07/03/2021 10:10

I would take the full refund and book again or something different once you know what the restrictions would be.

Do you have to go in June/July? I don’t think travel will go ahead until middle of Aug/Sept.

I had the same dilemma the pandemic has taught be you just know if things will be worse or not. Will prices go up after Borris does an update? Probably so.

I have booked for the last week in Aug! As I thought I might as well use the extra 20%.

peak2021 · 07/03/2021 13:31

I'd take the refund. The saving from no Covid testing will go towards paying for something in the UK or your 'over 2' costs next year.

Still take the time off work this year in the summer though.
