Why isn’t this being widely reported? As a teacher and a parent working and living in one of the mentioned LEAs, it’s very concerning indeed.

I live in one of those areas and am not concerned at all. Children need to be back at school.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/03/2021 19:08

@Waxonwaxoff0 and if your DC has to keep isolating due to bubbles bursting?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/03/2021 19:09

And children in deprived areas arguably are at more risk not being in school than ones in wealthy areas.

Not happened yet so I'll deal with that if and when it happens.

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 19:10

My school had its first bubble burst 3rd week in Sept. We were never fully open from then. Twice we closed to all 7 year groups. I’m afraid the same thing will happen this term.

what a surprise - it's the doom mongers from Independent Sage

bathsh3ba · 06/03/2021 19:10

Because it's Independent Sage who are scaremongering attention seekers.

Indeed. They're advocating for a Zero Covid approach so of course they don't want children back at school.
Eccle80 · 06/03/2021 19:12

It is already out of date with cases dropping still, my authority is on that list but is now under 100. In many of those places the schools have been open with much higher rates too. And now secondary pupils will have done lateral flow before going back.

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 19:13

It’s not about not wanting pupils in school, but making sure that once pupils return, they return for good.

OP posts:
Kgrzghtechh · 06/03/2021 19:15

Have Independent Sage ever agreed with any decision?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/03/2021 19:15

Pupils ARE returning for good. Hospital rates are falling faster than ever. This is it now.

Flev · 06/03/2021 19:15

Children in more deprived areas already face more challenges - keeping them off school longer than better off areas is just going to further perpetuate the problems.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/03/2021 19:17

Exactly @motherrunner. More disruptive to education if bubbles bursting all the time.

Schools were open throughout the autumn term according to the Gov. Except they weren’t.

Please forgive my pessimism but my experience form last erm has closed my judgement.

It really isn't that out of date. Most of the authorities listed still have cases over 100 per 100,000. The cases will rise again more quickly in these areas.
reformedcharacters · 06/03/2021 19:20

Liverpool is on that list at 110.8 but today it’s actually 93.4 according to:
coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map

If you look at the council’s website 0-19 has also persistently been the group with the lowest infection rates.

Wakeupin2022 · 06/03/2021 19:21

My county council is on that list.

My kids will be going back and I am not concerned!

My MSOA is white plus some surrounding ones. Rest of city doing well too.

There are other areas in council that are higher than that. About 20 miles or so away.........

But let's just try and stop swathes of kids going back to school for absolutely no reason at all.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/03/2021 19:21

There's always the chance of bubbles bursting unless there are no Covid cases, which isn't going to happen. Some school is better than no school at all which is the case for most children at the moment.

I hope your DC’s school have a ouch teachers well to teach. My school closed twice fully last term due to staff absence.

My daughter's school is in one of the 58 and we live in a different one of the 58. She's been in school throughout lockdown both times. All the school has been in full time this lockdown, weekly testing and there hasn't been one case.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/03/2021 19:24

I'm sure they'll be fine. At DS's school there have only been 2 cases in total, both in students not staff and both before October half term.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 06/03/2021 19:27

I knew the teachers would start complaining again as usual because they have to go back, just get on with it like everyone else has !

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 19:28

This is what is infuriating, the ‘well at my DC’s school there has been no cases’. That’s luck! I’m sure your outlook would be vert different if your child hadn’t been in school since Sept. At my school pupils in their GCSE and Alevel years didn’t have continuous education.
