Argh, my flat mate and covid

I woke up yesterday with a tight chest, achy and exhausted. Tired breathing techniques and calming music in case it was anxiety, had a bath for the aches, and a nap. I didn’t feel any better by lunchtime, and my lunch tasted odd. I told my 3 flat mates, and went to get a covid test.

Thankfully my test came back negative this evening, but one flat mate is cross that he might have had to miss his weekend running. He works form home so not worried about work. He thinks I should have waited until tomorrow to see if I felt better before making everyone stay in (for 36 hours) and making him miss running.

AIBU to be annoyed? I had symptoms, I took a test. Surely this is better than letting my other flat mate who can’t WFH potentially take covid to work.

I know staying in for 10 days wouldn’t have been a barrel of laughs, but surely I did the right thing here?

Yes, of course you did. Everyone’s struggling in some way and fighting their own battles. Maybe his weekend plans were what was getting him through the week. Great you tested negative so life and routine (or what we gave if it!) can continue over weekend.

It kind of depends what you're like generally. I mean if you've had 10 tests in the last year then I think your flat mate would be justified in being annoyed.

flat mate is an idiot.

What a nice flat mate, wasn’t worried in case you had caught covid, but only worried about his running schedule, how selfish. Perhaps they might be better off living alone. I’d hate to think what would have happened if you were positive and they would have to isolate for 10 days. You did the right thing getting tested, well done. Tell them they are lucky test result came back so quick, a couple of months ago, they were taking up to a week to come back.

Of course he’s an arse. Unless you’re onto your 52nd test.
Hope you feel better soon.

I've had one previous test, in October, when I had a fever of 39. something for about 18 hours.

I'm about to be doing two LFTs a week. That'll be fun if any come back positive.

This is fundamentally the problem with a virus.

BY the time it's so widespread that everyone is aware of how dangerous it is, it's too late to do anything about it - so measures come in early to try to stop this eventuality from occurring. But then everyone who DOESN'T personally know someone severely affected by the virus, trivializes it as your flatmate is doing.

You did the right thing - sadly that's becoming somewhat of a thankless task these days.

What's his "weekend running"? Just going for a run, or seeing a friend? He could surely go for a run anyway if he goes early morning & stays miles away from other humans.
