Masks for school

Are you sending your DC into school with cloth face masks or disposable? How many do you think they'll need, and what are they taking spare ones in?

I think mine will need a few as they're bound to get lost!

Cloth. For environmental reasons.

One (because they won't swap them any more frequently however much I might want them to).

Hand sanitiser (they won't use it, but part of school policy that they should have it, and sanitise hands before and after taking off mask)

Sealable bag to store in when not in use.

Same as last term really.

Bramshott · 04/03/2021 09:38

M&S do packs of 5 cloth ones in kids and adult sizes - we bought a few packs at the start of last term.

teachermummy1 · 04/03/2021 09:42

She can manage her own mask at 16 but she's using disposable- easier to breathe in

Probably a spare reusable in her bag.

anatara · 04/03/2021 12:19

Thanks, I think I'll use cloth but put a couple in a bag in case they lose one. could put the hand sanitiser in there too

One cloth mask per day, and a spare permanently in their bag.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/03/2021 12:23

DS was taking 2 cloth ones in during the winter term as needed them on the school bus. Had a sealable bag to put used ones in, and hand sanitiser. He also had 2 disposable ones in a separate compartment of his school bag for emergency purposes just in case he forgot to pick up cloth ones in the morning. School bus was very strict with mask use

Seeline · 04/03/2021 12:24

My DD uses disposables as she finds they work better with her glasses - steam up terribly with cloth ones, although she finds those more comfortable. If she gets up in time she can put in her contacts and then uses fabric ones.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/03/2021 12:25

Forgot to add that I will give an extra mask now they have to wear all day, so will be taking 3 cloth ones a day. Can see him using the same one though!

Ginandjewels · 04/03/2021 12:58

I got a lovely mixture of cloth and disposable masks from Etsy and then this bag to take them to school in which I have found great www.etsy.com/uk/listing/863074477/mask-drawstring-travel-bag?ref=shop_home_active_2&frs=1

anatara · 04/03/2021 14:16

I like that little bag Ginandjewels, I hadn't bought of looking on Etsy

If anyone wants disposable, Amazon had packs of 50 for £8.75 last week, on the small side for adults so perfect for younger teens

timesofchange · 04/03/2021 15:49

DC school had masks in communal areas Sept-Dec and the reality went like this: no matter how many you give them for the day, they wear the same one; no matter what nice storage bag you give them, they shove it in their pocket.

wonderstuff · 04/03/2021 15:53

Our kids schools have recommended 3 for during the day and another for the bus if they're using it.
We're going for washable for environmental reasons. Dd likes the ones sold at Claire's online.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 04/03/2021 15:55

Teacher.

I was dithering about going for the disposables, but not disposing of them. If I wear one in the am, one in the pm, then put them in a sealed bag for 3 days, then I can wear them again?

I find the cloth ones get wet when I'm talking. As in condensation rather than dribble.

palacegirl77 · 04/03/2021 16:21

If shes having to wear one its a proper one. Medical grade, disposable. At least 3 a day plus spares. Hand sanitizer in between. Horrendous for the environment but no way is she sitting in a homemade cloth one, next to pointless as it wont be used or stored correctly.

I'm not sure a child that won't use or store a homemade cloth mask correctly is likely to be swapping between at least 3 medical grade masks each day using hand sanitizer in between.
Watsername · 04/03/2021 16:41

Cloth. Each child has 5 or 6 which are changed at each lesson as they get wet. The used ones got in a zip bag.

Robintakeover · 04/03/2021 16:44

Child will have a clean cloth mask each day and a spare disposable one in the front pocket of his bag with his hand sanitiser . I could send him with more - but I know he won’t use them

palacegirl77 · 04/03/2021 16:44

@UserTwice Im sure she wont either. Which I why I think the whole thing is a publicity stunt to pacify the Unions and of no benefit to teachers or students alike. I will never forget Jennie Harries standing there saying that improper use could cause more problems than they solve. I am hoping she was wrong.

This is the reality I’m afraid with sons anyway !

Please let me into your secret as to how you have convinced your children to do that? When I suggested something similar to my DC they looked at me as if I had two heads.
SOLINVICTUS · 04/03/2021 17:11

Make sure you check that school will accept cloth. Ours doesn't. I've stocked up on washable FFP2s. They fit better too (at least for me) and because of the "beak"effect, you've not got mask sticking to your face.

Can I ask where you got those from please.
SoCrimeaRiver · 05/03/2021 15:47

We're secondary school so have had them for the school bus and corridors all last term. We got some cloth ones from Amazon and I put his name in them. He's supposed to have 6, so one a day plus a spare in case washing doesn't get done, and he also has a pack of 5 disposables as he can't get on the bus if he loses his mask at school, or if he wants to give one to a friend. He also has a bottle of sanitiser on a caribiner on his rucksack so he can clean his hands as he goes.

kimlo · 05/03/2021 15:55

dd1 17 cloth. Black because they have to be black or blue.

dd2 11 disposable. I would rather she used cloth but she hates them. I get her childrens ones because they fit her face better.
