Had first Moderna jab this morning!

Have any other MNetters had this one? I know it's mostly UK based folk on here, but at the same time there are a good many from other countries too.

So pleased to be vaccinated! It's been 8 hours, arm is starting to get a bit of that bruised feeling if I lean on it.

Meant to ask OP - did you get any side effects with your second shot? I know a few medics here who’ve said the second Moderna was a bit tougher.

@Dowser

Her last comment was March 18

I wanted to give an update to all my family, friends, and followers this morning! The acupuncture herbal remedies seem to be helping! I still have days with tremors, no major convulsions in a week! I am on bed rest except for MD appointments and small walks out side for 10-15 minutes 4-5 times a day! I have days where I stutter and can't seem to form sentences. So far all tests have turned up negative and no one can give me a medical diagnosis! I feel weakness in my legs on a regular basis and often feel foggy headed! Continued prayers and support is much appreciated! I want to give a shout out to friends ! You all have played an amazing roll and I respect you all! Thanks for working with me when no one else would!

@musicalfrog

Who TF is Kristi Simmons?
Indeed.
knittingaddict · 29/03/2021 08:26

Can't even google her, so a random? That's a bit like quoting knittingaddict, who may or may not be a drama llama. Grin

I expect NHS will not wish to use Moderna as a mainstay due to cost

The cost of the jab is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of lockdown. That's why the government were happy to pay for enough vaccines for the country many times over.

MRex · 29/03/2021 08:33

The USA have given out around 60m Moderna doses so far. It would be beyond weird and into miracle territory if none of those people had any illness afterwards.
I see her note says that acupuncture is healing something doctors can't detect, which sounds more like a comedian having fun than someone who is extremely unwell.

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2021 08:36

I really hope I get this soon as late forties and could be the one that’s available

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2021 08:38

@Schmoozer

Moderna is the most expensive for the UK - around £35 per jab Pfizer around £15 AZ around £5

I expect NHS will not wish to use Moderna as a mainstay due to cost

We’ve bought a certain amount of each so don’t we know how much of each so far
AbsentmindedWoman · 29/03/2021 17:09

I'm almost 48 hours after the second dose now, so thought I'd update again - I did feel a bit yuck on Saturday evening and Sunday. Mainly, my skin felt rather tender, muscles ached in a low key way (similar to after a tough workout, so not bad) and had no interest in food. Didn't sleep well on Saturday night.

But essentially it was totally fine! Just some discomfort rather than anything more grisly. Lay on the sofa and watched films, and ate some bland carbs which made me feel better overall.

Woke up this morning feeling good after a good sleep, and rapidly became very hungry Grin

That’s 24 days after your first, right? I’ve had my first and I have an appointment for my second which is 30 days later. Felt ok other than some nausea.

@ZZTopGuitarSolo Yes, the place I went to booked me in for 24 days later. I was surprised as it seemed a bit early, but after checking the CDC and a few other sources it seems there's an approved window between 24 - 32 days for Moderna.

Hope your second goes well, I'm sure you'll be fine!

My DM had her moderna jab 3 days ago in Nevada. She said no side effects except a slightly sore arm.
She also said that all her friends who have had both moderna jabs said you only get side effects after the second dose usually. I hadn't heard that about Pfizer or AZ so that's a difference ( might just be her friends though).

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 30/03/2021 00:24

Thanks - it is such a relief to be nearly there.

stopgap · 30/03/2021 11:39

@AbsentmindedWoman, my husband is getting Moderna tomorrow, and I’m getting Pfizer Thursday. Our second doses are scheduled for four weeks (him) and three weeks (me). I can’t bloody wait. I’m also in the US, in CT.

Furries · 31/03/2021 01:26

@stopgap and other posters from the US. Do you get told “what” your jab will be before attending?

Not that I’m fussed, I’m happy for any jab when it gets to the over 40s in the UK, just interested to see how it’s rolling out elsewhere.

stopgap · 31/03/2021 01:35

Yes, you do get a choice. Or at least through the online booking system, each facility states which vaccine they carry.

Furries · 31/03/2021 02:14

@stopgap - that’s really interesting. What is the press coverage like there? Am just wondering whether having a choice means people might be turning vaccines down?

Am not trying to create controversy by asking, I just find it interesting how each country is approaching it (though also realise that US states will have differing stances).

When I went for mine you found out what vaccine they were giving when you arrived. There was a big sign outside saying “Today we are giving the Moderna vaccine”.

I don’t know how typical this is.

stopgap · 31/03/2021 12:29

@Furries, I believe the general perception is that Pfizer and Moderna are more sought over, although I would have been perfectly happy with the J&J. AZ is on the brink of approval (or maybe that already happened) but it’s not yet being used in the rollout.

Furries · 31/03/2021 13:39

Thanks all, interesting to see how things are elsewhere.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 31/03/2021 18:33

I chatted with a few colleagues the other day about this - we're all 50 something women.

One did not want the AZ at all, and preferred Pfizer or Moderna over J&J because of the perceived better immunity (although we did talk about how you can't compare their results because of when they were tested).

One really did want the J&J for the quicker immunity.

One (me) was happy to get whatever was available but would have slightly preferred Pfizer over Moderna because of the 3-week wait for the second shot vs the 4-week wait.
