Delayed vaccine reaction

I'm going to sound nuts... 🙄😳🙄😳🙄

I'm 16 days after the vaccine, can you get an adverse reaction this late? Today at lunch time the injection site has swollen, followed by about 6 other fairly large hives between the shoulder and injection site in the last two hours. I've taken an antihistamine and plan to contact the GP in the morning if they haven't gone done. I dont need to panic more than this do I?

It sounds like shingles.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 03/03/2021 19:30

Sounds a bit strange to be connected and that long after - mine and most people that I spoke to have had any reactions commence within about 12 hours of the vaccination.

I did have hives as one of my covid reactions though (under my armpitsShock, and there are research studies going on with regards to covid and hives - but with a gap that long, I'd speak to your GP.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 03/03/2021 19:30

Nothing like shingles. Perhaps hives is the wrong word. Roughly 6 mozzy bite looking things on steroids with no mozzy bite marks in the centre. Literally giant fuckers. With the starting of a rash between them.

Not an allergic reaction but if your immune system was busy mounting its response its possible its over reacted to something or you have got something it would have beaten off normally?

Rose5678 · 04/03/2021 09:05

It sounds like ‘Covid arm’ (I read about it on another thread!) which can happen after a week of getting the vaccine.Might be worth Googling? But still speak to you GP!

flapjackfairy · 04/03/2021 09:19

Funnily enough my arm suddenly went sore 2 weeks after the vacine and a week later I am still struggling to get my arm above my head without it hurting. I also wondered if it was a delayed reaction. I had other side effects at the time but not really a sore arm. Strange.

Donotfeedthebears · 04/03/2021 09:25

coronavirus-yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

You can report it as a side effect.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 04/03/2021 10:18

It sounds like you have been bitten ?

Please see GP in case it turns into anything worse.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 04/03/2021 17:35

Hi @Hazelnutlatteplease check The Daily Mail online, they have wrote a piece about others presenting with similar to you. Hope your arm is better.

babba2014 · 04/03/2021 17:42

You can get a late reaction to any vaccine. You aren't crazy. You're thinking straight. Make sure to report it to the yellow card scheme and see the doc soon if you can.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 05/03/2021 07:13

I've spoken to the doctor last night, just been a bit doolally with antihistamine.

Doctor doesn't think its jab related, I think that's bonkers, otherwise it's an almighty coincidence that the first, biggest and most enduring bump is right on the injection spot. Main thing the lhs body rash that was starting to come up has disappeared and it did get any more worrying. I'm a single parent carer to DS with SN so when I'm ill suddenly a lot falls on DDs shoulders, you dont want to risk disappearing up A&E in the middle of the night.

At least they are happy to still give me the second dose. I might grab some better antihistamines on the meantime though!

I do think it's vaccine related. I have heard of some reactions coming outside the most common interval for reactions to occur (i.e. in the first 48 hours). Everyone's different.

Be sure to yellow card your reaction. I hope you feel better soon.

ItsSnowJokes · 05/03/2021 07:20

Moderna have been having reactions like this in America. It uses similar technology to Pfizer, I haven't heard of it over here though.

Goneback2school · 05/03/2021 07:26

A colleague was complaining of exactly this a few days ago. She was 10 days post vaccine and developed a cellulitis type rash that was hot to touch. She spoke to another colleague who said its a documented reaction.
