Students, year abroad & vaccination

DD has a place for a year abroad starting in September, and there's the option to go a month earlier. The country she's going to are talking about vaccine passports, but given she'll have only had one vaccination at that point (she'll be 19 then) and then needs time to get the vaccine passports, just wondering how this is going to pan out. Any thoughts?

I'm sure it's an issue the government will have to consider as there's going to be a fair few students going abroad half vaccinated at that point. If there's going to be a three month gap still, she really needs to get it done mid May.

Where is she going? I imagine this year lots of countries will require either the vaccine passport or quarantine when there so if she hasn’t had the full vaccination yet she will likely be able to quarantine when there instead. To be honest I don’t think it’s something the government will consider as it’s not something that would be high up three priority list.

Also if there is the option for the later start she’d probably be best going for that as there’s more chance of having the second vaccine dose before then.

Assuming it's a typical year abroad location, I'm sure the second dose can be arranged there, she won't be alone

I’m sure they haven’t considered this at all!
Just like they’ve failed to consider everything else with students this yearAngry

I would hope though, that by the time we get to that age group they are able to shorten the time between doses. They won’t want to risk “losing” half vaccinated people in the system and that could be more likely to happen in a younger population that move around more frequently for various reasons.

My DD will be in exactly the same position. Hoping it's something that will be considered in next couple of months as they'll be students all over the country in this position.

Not sure how other unis allocate spaces, but there were two places and 300 on the course. She's always wanted the experience on her course and it's course specific. It's one thing that might differentiate her from others.

I would have thought testing was the solution here. One dose plus test.

Germany is moving to longer gaps between doses now, so this isn't going to be an issue unique to UK students - most young people are going to be at the back of the queue.

OP the government does not do detail, so I would not assume the government will have a plan for this. There are no special cases for those under 50 in any case, even the police and teachers.

I'd suggest a plan B in case the country your daughter is going to does not accept her until the second vaccine.

Apparently we're vaccinating international students. My DC also has a place for a year abroad as well, and really hoping other countries are doing likewise.
