Stopping wfh

namechange63524 · 02/03/2021 17:21

Lots of people haven't been able to work from home during lockdown, but for those that have been able to wfh productively (or as productively as can be expected with schools shut), when are your firms asking you to go back into the office?

From June onwards its expected that we go into the office at least a couple of days a week to begin with. This would ramp up over time. I work in a city with a CEO big on social responsibility.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 02/03/2021 18:07

Yet to be defined but definitely not until the wfh if you can from the gov't is lifted & then it will depend on what regs are in place in terms of social distancing etc. At the moment we could only be at 50% capacity anyway.
I think we will eventually be either 2/3 or 3/2 wfh but with at least 1 day pw with everyone in the team in. More if people want to be in the office more +/- meetings etc.
I'm very confident that as long as business needs are met personal preference will talent into account. I do think they will change contracts though & not sure what implications that might have.

namechange63524 · 02/03/2021 18:20

I know some firms are asking for people back next week, some at the end of March, DP in April, some firms not til 2022.

Mine that had us back in a staggered form from last July has now said June to be back. I feel this is a massive change in outlook.

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 02/03/2021 19:33

July at the earliest, but depends when the wfh of you can advice is lifted. We will move to a mixed office and home working system for the long term though.

locationideas · 02/03/2021 19:35

It hasn't even been mentioned by my organisation yet. At a guess, maybe summer?

SymphonyofShadows · 02/03/2021 19:55

I’ll be back in the office two days a week with some flexibility by early May. I’m looking forward to wearing nicer clothes etc. but I will miss falling out of bed a lot later. That will all stop next week though with having to get DS(15) up and out for school.

I’m wondering if the expectation for those who have been WFH to not have sick days, but to WFH instead. I already know of a couple of companies who have been trying to make that a thing for years.

namechange63524 · 02/03/2021 20:44

"I’m wondering if the expectation for those who have been WFH to not have sick days, but to WFH instead"

This has certainly been the norm wherever I've worked.

OP posts:
ConnieDobbs · 02/03/2021 20:47

My work haven't mentioned anything yet. I'm hoping it's not till I've had the vaccine and after school clubs are running. I can work effectively from home and would ideally go in once or twice a week for some human interaction.

Somanysplitends · 02/03/2021 21:06

Never. I've been make an official homeworker this week. I don't mind really but probably would've liked a day or so in the office

HolmeH · 02/03/2021 21:07

Ours has said July.. but they are not sure at what capacity yet. Waiting on govmt guidelines. We’ve all had a contracts changed to allow flexi working, we don’t have to go in at all or we can split our week. Or we can just go back as normal. My manager is pushing me to promote home working to my team, the top bods are apparently wanting to close our sub office & just have head office in London.. was on the cards before covid to be honest!

KeepWashingThoseHands · 02/03/2021 21:07

In the words of Thelma and Louise (I think):

I ain’t never going back.

Perm WFH with offices closing due to the success of home working

Delighted :)

TinyGlassOwl · 02/03/2021 21:20

Not until September (I work in a university). After that, probably a couple of days a week, depending on teaching requirements. Some weeks more often, others I won't be in at all.

Apparently we are moving to a 'default wfh' model, where you only come in if you actually need to be there. Meetings will all remain online, thank god.

All very sensible, imo. Whilst nothing replaces face-to-face teaching and I'll be happy to get back to that, I never ever want to return to the routine of commuting every day into the office 'just because'.

CoolShoeshine · 02/03/2021 21:22

Next week when schools are back as this should resolve a lot of people’s childcare issues. Prefer wfh but glad to still have a job.

Thunderpants5138 · 02/03/2021 21:22

We're back in the office from Monday

PracticingPerson · 02/03/2021 21:23

I think maybe not full time, ever. But I don't want to count my chickens. Our place can change it's mind a fair bit.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/03/2021 21:23

I’m on mat leave but keeping in touch I don’t think they will contemplate anything until late summer.
All my friends who wfh have been told by their companies that going forth they will only need to be in the office part time, no full 5 day return for at least 4 firms I know of.

Acesulfame · 02/03/2021 21:24

No word at all from mine yet but I expect the summer. I expect most people will want hybrid working.

Isolatedizzy · 02/03/2021 21:45

Maybe in the summer but never all back in the office 5 days per week again! WFH has been a great success! Maybe 2 days in 3 at home which would be perfect!

I can't see why employers want people back in! Still spreading everyone out, testing people, the threat of someone catching it and bubbles isolating. This hasn't gone away - yet! And most working age people haven't been vaccinated yet!

PrincessNutNuts · 02/03/2021 21:47
  1. Date to be confirmed.
JaceLancs · 02/03/2021 21:47

I’ve been back in my office since August 2020
DD has been in her office throughout (classed as essential keyworker)
DS been told unlikely to be back in office before September 2021 (local authority providing key services)
DP was furloughed and then made redundant last June - would love to be working at all - anywhere!

Bubbinsmakesthree · 02/03/2021 21:54

Amazed people are changing practice from next week...the ‘WFH if you can’ advice won’t have changed, will it?

No word from our office yet. Expect summer if the roadmap works out, but I think it’ll be a hybrid. I already did 2 days pw from home before covid happened, and will probably do 4 from home in the future.

megletsecond · 02/03/2021 21:58

Nothing has been said yet, they've been really good and kept us at home. I only went in for 2 days in Sept and Oct.

We have been asked about our preferences as the company would like to reduce office space. I'd be happy with 50/50.

CharBart · 02/03/2021 22:00

July for us. Likely to be an option of a couple of days a week working at home for a lot of roles. Management are talking more about benefits of being in office like teams working together, developing junior staff etc.
