Schools: anyone else utterly sick of being manipulated by the press?

Just that really. I’m so sick and tired of logging onto the BBC and finding articles every day promoting whatever viewpoint the government currently wants us to believe. At the moment it’s the onslaught of schools are safe/teachers are safe/tests are a game changer. When they were about to close the schools, the narrative was completely different with kids more likely to be index case/variants will kill is all/out of control vectors.

I’m not saying I agree or disagree with any particular viewpoint in any particular article just that I’m SO SICK of being manipulated. It enrages me that they think we are such pathetic sheep that we can’t see what they are doing.

It’s not just schools, it’s every course of action they want us to take or not take. I hate the PR and the manipulation.

That diagram! Hilarious!

That’s what I’m expecting to see tomorrow. I hope I’m not disappointed!

Me too. Down to the shiny faced child in perfect uniform!

And the computer on every desk!

Justajot · 07/03/2021 11:18

I'm so excited. My DD was in a class of 34 before Christmas, but from the picture it looks like she'll be in a class of 9. I can't praise the government highly enough for quadrupling the number of teachers and classrooms at such short notice.

Abraxan · 07/03/2021 11:20

I wonder why coronavirus means we have had to,revert back to chalk boards, and what have they done with our interactive whiteboards.

I didn't realise that the reason why lots of pupils never received their government promised tech was because they'd allocated one per pupil to schools for use in classrooms on our return either.

Missushbb · 07/03/2021 11:21

Yes, the BBC is so obvious about it too, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were on the daily mail website some days

Abraxan · 07/03/2021 11:35

I'm not even sure how this fits in with a positive PR campaign.
Surely it would put people off or really reinforce a negative opposition to 'schools are safe' - it looks so clinical and suggests the exact opposite!

StaffRepFeistyClub · 07/03/2021 11:50

@lonelyplanet

Not just manipulation but downright lies

www.thesun.co.uk/news/14254492/how-covid-safe-classrooms-look-monday/?utm_campaign=sunmainfacebook&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1615044836

I wonder if anyone's classroom will look like this tomorrow! None in my school have any of these measures except windows and sanitiser.

There is an lot happening considering we have all been told it is safe and COVID does not spread in schools.

What the press and gov really mean is that there is a risk and this is what we are doing to reduce the risk

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 07/03/2021 11:59

I’m quite pleased the government are pushing the use of chalk boards again. My handwriting looks better than on a whiteboard. Do you think they would change the picture to a roller board if I emailed and asked nicely? The rollers were lovely. Seriously though, when newspapers resort to imaginary drawings there is something seriously wrong. Send a photographer to a school and ask to take a photo of a classroom today! Or just the photos from stock files as nothing has changed.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 07/03/2021 11:59

3 of the classrooms I currently teach in look smaller than that, with class sizes of 28-34 depending on set.
As it is we have some pupils facing sideways sat on the end of the row as the classroom really only fits 30, and that is already shoulder to shoulder. So 2 pupils sharing desk space for one, iyswim?
I'm wondering what magic will have happened by tomorrow.... Hmm

Abraxan · 07/03/2021 12:00

Why do the children have computers each but the teacher doesn't get any tech at all??

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 07/03/2021 12:00

I used to love my roller board Sad

And then there's the bus, train or tube journey, for those DC who have to use public transport.

My geography teacher used to go all round the roller board every lesson.

Remember, the Tories have threatened the BBC - toe the line or get de-funded.

That's why you're seeing this propaganda.
