Oxford Vaccine

I had the vaccine on Saturday. 12 hours later, I got a fever of 39.2. This morning I had a slight temperature which went after taking paracetamol. Every since this afternoon, I've been feeling nauseous & light headed.

Those of you that have had this vaccine, how long does it last? Did you get the awful side effects?

Its making me not want to get the 2nd vaccine to be honest 😣

I had a week of headaches, exhaustion and no appetite with the Pfizer jab. Apparently with the Pfizer you get worse side effects with the second vaccine! But I will 100% get it.
With the Oxford vaccine you get worse effects with the first one so you should be ok OP.

LizzieSiddal · 01/03/2021 21:54

I also have not told anyone as I don’t want to sound ungrateful or put anyone off getting it.

rrra · 01/03/2021 22:09

I had mine at midday yesterday and had geared up for chills/flu overnight and today. But actually have only had a sore arm and fatigue. Hope not to get any late onset side effects.

Grenola · 01/03/2021 22:12

I too had a really high temp 40 and as hallucinating that my. Body was on fire. Could smell burning and I was shaking so violently couldn't hold my glass of water. It was truelly Horrible, lasted about 6 hours and then my temp stayed at 38 for another 12 hours. After two days I feeling. Orenormal, but sheesh it wiped me out and scared stuff of the next dose

maggiso · 01/03/2021 22:18

I’ve heard ( from other nhs staff) that people who have had coronavirus already react more to the vaccine. Perhaps the body gets on the job of producing antibodies that bit faster?
Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Anniegetyourgun · 01/03/2021 22:28

I had mine two weeks ago, no side effects other than the mandatory bruise from having a needle stuck into the arm (which was barely even uncomfortable at the time). That does suggest that last year when I thought I might have had The Covid, before tests were easily available, I probably didn't, otherwise my immune system would have made more of a fuss about it now. Or is that the wrong way round? Or worse, maybe it isn't working... (it probably is).

A couple of friends who had theirs experienced from a few hours to about a day of fatigue and chills, but nothing too awful.

I had the side effects for about 48 hours, had it the Friday afternoon felt like death by Friday evening , high temp, shivers aches pains etc.

Temp and aches on the Saturday and just totally wiped out.

The Sunday no temp but still felt a bit ropy/ real lack of energy, By the Monday only my arm hurt where I'd had the jab.

Chillihat · 01/03/2021 22:57

I had this too but no way does it put me off having the second jab! I feel massively grateful to have had it and it feels like a huge weight off my mind knowing that once the immune reaction kicks in I'll be 94% protected from hospitalisation or dying from covid (according to recent Scottish study). I don't think anyone should let side effects put them or others off having the vaccine.

sneakysnoopysniper · 01/03/2021 22:59

A relative and I both had AZ and had mild flu symptoms for about 24-36 hours - headache, tired, washed out. Better than getting covid.

Bogfrog · 01/03/2021 23:02

I had side effects for 5 days. Shaking violently, abdominal pain, the trots, nausea, headache and dizziness. Couldn’t walk straight. Hoping second jab better. Still pleased to have had it!

EmpressSuiko · 01/03/2021 23:17

My side effects lasted around 48 hours.

First chills, then fever along with muscle and joint aches. I also had pain in my right hand and right side of my neck (vaccine was done in my right arm), painkillers helped a lot!

Next morning I felt much better but body still ached, that evening I suddenly felt woozy and numb in my arms, then I developed an all over body rash and my skin was incredibly itchy (whenever my immune system is overworking itself I develop a rash) but I took some antihistamines to help calm it down.

Today I’ve felt fine, not looking forward to going through all of this a second time but it’s totally worth it!

EachBleachBlairTrump · 01/03/2021 23:40

Had mine Wednesday afternoon, woke up Thursday feeling like I'd been run over, aching all over, especially neck and shoulders, headache, dizziness, very very tired, arm very painful swollen and tender under my left armpit, Friday much the same although alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol helped. Saturday still a bit achey and arm sore, lethargic, trip to Tesco left me wanting a nap, Sunday mainly ok other than sore arm, today pretty much fine other than a small patch on my upper arm that feels a bit bruised. I've had much worse flu, definitely worth it.

EachBleachBlairTrump · 01/03/2021 23:41

Oh yes the fever, temp 38.6-39.2 on Thursday

DuggeeStickyStick · 01/03/2021 23:53

I think the side effects are random for everyone and after every dose. So having a bad reaction to the first doesn't necessarily mean you will have an even worse reaction to the second (especially AZ which is supposed to be worse after the first shot).

I felt flu-y and nauseous after the first Pfizer, which left me a bit apprehensive about the second one that's statistically supposed to much worse. Ended up with zero side effects side from aching knees (?!)

saraclara · 02/03/2021 00:07

Yep. The first is the worst with AZ. But all the same I'm going to be prepared for the next one! Blankets on top of my duvet, hot water bottle, and paracetamol and a bottle of water by my bedside!

That first night, and first few hours in the morning were awful. I've never had chills like it.

Floralnomad · 02/03/2021 10:44

My daughter had the Oxford on Saturday and has felt really rough since as well , although she does have form for always getting side effects . She felt a bit better yesterday so hopefully today will be better still . It certainly will not stop her getting the second dose .

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 02/03/2021 10:59

I had mine Saturday at 9am. Felt fine all day. 24hrs later I had a very sore arm and aches and chills for around 5 hours. Took a paracetamol and went for a nap and was okay after.

ittakes2 · 02/03/2021 13:56

I am the same as you - fever 24hrs and then dizzy. Overall feeling better but still can be light headed - I had Oxford Friday.

zafferana · 02/03/2021 13:59

I had the AZ vaccine yesterday afternoon. Woke in the night with a sore arm and feeling a bit crap. Took paracetamol and went back to sleep. Today I've just been feeling a bit achy and rubbish, just like I do for a day after having the flu jab. I haven't had Covid.

AwFeebs · 02/03/2021 14:16

I had mine yesterday afternoon too, woke in the night several times feeling sweaty but cold.

Just a general rubbish feeling today and a headache.

lbrc84 · 02/03/2021 14:41

Its reassuring that others are feeling similar. I have to admit, I was very unsure whether to have the vaccine or not but felt pressured to have it so I did. So with feeling so rubbish due to the side effects I've been wishing I hadn't taken it!

I know that I should be grateful to be given the opportunity of having vaccinations but Im praying there are no long term effects from having them.

Anyone else feel this way ? Confused

zafferana · 02/03/2021 15:01

Honestly, no @lbrc84. I feel unbelievably lucky to have been offered it and feeling a bit shit for a day or two is a small price to pay for getting out of this fucking pandemic.

saraclara · 02/03/2021 15:13

No @lbrc84, I feel extremely lucky to have had it. 24 hours of discomfort is a small price to pay, and has absolutely nothing to do with long term safety.

If anything the side effects felt like a good sign that my body was reacting to the vaccine and doing what it's supposed to do.

ifonly4 · 02/03/2021 15:15

Ibrc84 I had to get my head around having the vaccine, but five weeks later I can honestly say I feel like I've done the right thing. It was worth not feeling 100% for a short while, compared to the risk of getting severe covid (I know 18 who've had it, one passed away, two hospitalised, two definitely have long covid and out of the others five felt really awful with it).

I actually can't wait to get my second one so I have that bit more protection and also hopefully less likely with transmit it to my family and friends.

lbrc84 · 03/03/2021 15:04

You are right. I am feeling much better today (day 5 since vaccine) just slight tingling in left arm. Think due to being unsure about having the vaccine in the first place and then having side effects dragging on, I allowed myself to think of all sorts of sinister things.

I'm actually looking at it from a different perspective, and I'm grateful that we live in a country that has these things available to us. Sorry if I've offended anyone or put anyone off having the vaccine.
