I’m now determined to lose weight

I am 34. No underlying health conditions apart from my high bmi which I guess is 40 or over as I’ve just had a text from my gp to book my vaccine. I am getting the vaccine before my 60 year old parents.

It’s made me feel a bit shit with myself but it has hardened my resolve to loose weight. We are moving in the next few weeks and will have the space and money spare for a treadmill so I can’t wait to move and start loosing. I am not confident enough to start trying to run in public but that is my end goal. Start cutting down, treadmill every night and eventually I will be able to run outside.

Just to help your parents, if they are 60 plus they can book themselves an appointment on the national hub.
Good luck with weight loss

Oysterbabe · 01/03/2021 20:28

Good luck OP!
Diet is far more important than exercise in losing weight so no reason not to start right away and to add the workouts when you can.

TheGriffle · 01/03/2021 20:30

My parents have booked themselves in @Whichjab theirs is a week on Saturday in the next city over as that’s where it would let them book. Mines in 2 days time in our local town!

Hi OP, well done on taking charge of your health! I'm 31 and I finally found motivation in March last year and have now gone from obese to normal weight (down about five and a half stone). Do DM me if you want an accountability buddy. You've got this!

Riv12345 · 01/03/2021 22:14

@Nevth

Well done on your weight lose!!

Can I ask how you achieved it?

CatRamsey · 01/03/2021 22:26

I'm with you OP. I weighed this morning and my BMI is 39.5, I am 1lb away from entering the next stone and I refuse to do so! I'm 25 and there's so much pressure to look good when young, I feel like I'm wasting my life away.

frozendaisy · 02/03/2021 10:10

Our treadmill arrives this month, so excited, was jogging around outdoors but all of our energies are sapped so hoping it is the start of the answer to all the family's exercise excuses!

Can't believe I am so excited about a treadmill.

Weight loss will come I am thinking it more to incorporate cardio minutes in our daily lives. We are not sedentary but could do with a push.

So trotting on a treadmill, few hand weight exercises and a bit of yoga stretching is the plan going forward.

As @Oysterbabe diet is important, just swapping the evening TV biscuit for an orange makes you feel lighter the following morning. I have a bowl of fruit salad in fridge which is lovely when all cut up to dish out a snack bowl, at the moment it is tropical, pineapple, melon and mango.

So happy to join in for a new, happier, healthier 2021 and beyond.

Well done OP!

It’s really diet that is the way to go.

Three good meals a day. Don’t go hungry! A fist size of protein every meal. Half the plate good veggies. Fist size of good carbs such as brown rice. Good fats with every meal- olive oil.

Fembot123 · 02/03/2021 10:18

Well done OP, don’t waste anytime on shame etc just focus on the health benefits. Lots of positive weight loss threads in the weight loss section

FTMF30 · 02/03/2021 10:18

Good on you OP!

I'm not sure what you're like, but I have a cross trainer in my spare room and I have my laptop in there to watch short episodes and generally have some entertainment while I move. It really helps pass the time and not feel so labourous.

ifonly4 · 02/03/2021 10:22

Well done, OP. Hope losing weight and hopefully feeling fitter builds your confidence.

In the meantime, have your vaccine and enjoy the fact it gives you extra protection. DH didn't have his vaccine initially (qualified through work) as he felt other people should have theirs before him. We then found out our local pharmacy had spare appointments everyday. He phoned and got in within three hours, so wasn't taking the appointment from anyone else.

Well done for getting your head in the right place to start your journey. I've lost 5 stones in the last year with about 2 to go.
Because of having hypermobile ankles and knees, i can't run so bought a rowing machine as the action is much more controlled.
It's fabulous. I like that it works so much of the body at once and has been marvellous for my core. I can't believe the effect it's had on my midrift and my bad back has gone! I would really recommend it.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 02/03/2021 10:25

Download My fitness pal app. Measure your food, log your food. It's really fantastic. Whenever you start putting weight back on start logging again.

And an electronic kitchen scales.
Never going to be 16 stone again. As soon as I hit 12 I start logging again and get it sorted

SonnetForSpring · 02/03/2021 10:49

Fantastic! I agree diet is the most significant factor when trying to lose weight. Pace yourself with the running, start small but keep going at least 3 a week. Do have rest days and intersperse walking with running until your joints and muscles get used to it. I didn't exercise hardly at all between 25 and 35 years old but when I started having aches and pains in my late 30's, I knew I had to incorporate exercise properly into my life. I have fallen in love with pilates. Cardio is also a must. I'd really recommend pilates to accompany it.

SonnetForSpring · 02/03/2021 10:50

To be honest, if you find something you love doing, it will be easier so explore your options.

ashley are you me? 4 stone down, two and a bit to go, bought a rowing machine just after Christmas, and feeling amazing! Also hypermobile.

OP - I hit my heaviest in Oct 19 (very close to morbidly obese) and turned my life totally around since Covid hit - I'm lighter, no longer depressed, moved from a place I hated, planning a degree AND at much less risk of covid/covid complications. And it all started with losing that first stone (or even first few pounds - it was something I was able to do for me for the first time in years). You can do this Flowers

Lampzade · 02/03/2021 12:35

Op, you don’t have to wait for two weeks. You can start making little changes to your diet now and start walking .You could start with a fifteen minutes walk daily , so that when you get your treadmill you will already be in the swing of things.
As others have said , diet is the most important factor in losing weight.

ColdBrightClearMorning · 02/03/2021 12:44

Good luck OP. It’s all about the calorie deficit though, so the treadmill will be nice but as long as you’re eating 500 calories less than your maintenance per day you will lose weight (around 1lb per week). Don’t make the mistake of going too hard on the exercise, realising it’s unsustainable and giving up. You can lose weight without lifting a finger, it’s simply about eating less. You got this!

Luckyrabbitfoot · 02/03/2021 12:59

Good luck OP! There is-fantastic Facebook group called lose weight eat pizza that focuses on CICO. It’s a lovely community that is really helpful and supportive.

Volcanoexplorer · 02/03/2021 13:00

Well done OP for taking charge of your health. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been and my BMI is 13.3. I’m shocked at myself. I did slimming world a while ago and lost 3 stone, but I’ve since put it all back on plus more. I’ve just signed up to SlimmingWorld online and I’m determined to do it again. I’ll be 40 in 6 months time and I want to be a healthy weight by then. I’ve asked dh to buy me an exercise bike for Mother’s Day so I can try and do some activity in doors where no one will see me.

Lumene · 02/03/2021 13:19

That’s great OP. There will be lots of other benefits to you too.
