Covid vaccine when pregnant?!

Hello, I have been invited for my COVID vaccine as I am asthmatic but I am currently 22 weeks pregnant. No one really seems to know if it's safe or not to have? On the NHS website it says they are starting to give it to vulnerable pregnant women but I don't know if it's worth the rush?! Help!

@vsnm13 Probably best to read the RCOG guidelines so you can see what the latest is. I know originally it was a no but perhaps it's more nuanced now. www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/covid-19-vaccines-and-pregnancy/

Thank you so much! I will have a read. I just came off the phone to reception at my GP practice who told me not to have it. X

Who told you not to have it? If receptionist then I wouldn't take the advice on board!

The vaccine isn't licensed for use in pregnancy yet, not because it's not safe, but because pregnant women aren't routinely included in trials so we simply don't have data yet. There's no indication to suggest it would be harmful, and other similar vaccines have been proven to be safe (like influenza) and are recommended in pregnancy.

Right now RCOG recommends anyone with a high risk of exposure (such as HCPs) or CEV should have it. Anyone else should discuss the pros and cons with their health practitioner if they are undecided and pregnant- with asthma it could be a good idea to discuss with your GP?

Here's the latest advice from RCOG: www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/covid-19-vaccines-and-pregnancy/covid-19-vaccines-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding/

I won’t be having it whilst pregnant or breastfeeding personally.
