To wonder why Rishi is continuing to throw out money?

Just reading now about all these different sectors who are going to be getting an extra boost. Isn't this all just contributing to the borrowing and meaning that we will be paying this back for longer and longer?
I know it is needed to help get businesses up and running but he does seem to be throwing money around like paper confetti?

"Public spending is not being reduced. Where I live we are getting a new secondary school, a new dual carriageway and a new hospital."

Really mellongoose? The ONS appear to disagree with you on public spending - LAs are expecting a 10% real cut over the next year, and the silence on financing a social care programme was deafening. Swingeing tax cuts will be used in 'pay back' the Brexit and COVID debt and it will NOT be the wealthy who will pay that.

The depth of economic and political ignorance in this country is astounding at times.

Excellent post.

Healthcare budget is dropping hugely. Those promised forty new hospitals are in the ether somewhere.

It’s a real concern because there are significant extra ‘needs’ for increased healthcare due to long Covid and from consequences of delayed treatment and backlog. Don’t expect shorter waiting lists and do expect far more ‘non essential’ reduction in services.

Given the U.K. already spends significantly less per capita than most other developed nations, it’s shocking.

Do you by any chance live in a "Red Wall" constituency, or have a cabinet minister as MP?

Sunak's constituency of Richmond in Yorkshire is Category One.

"Category one includes Canterbury and Lewes, prosperous commuter towns in south-east England, and Rossendale, seat of former minister Jake Berry, who heads a group of northern Conservative MPs pushing for greater funding for their constituencies.

Labour said that, in total, five cabinet ministers’ constituencies were included in category one, the others being Pembrokeshire, Dumfries and Galloway, and Great Yarmouth. These are represented by Welsh secretary Simon Hart, Scottish secretary Alister Jack and Northern Ireland secretary Brandon Lewis respectively.

Priority two includes Salford, one of the UK’s most deprived cities, and Coventry in the industrial West Midlands."

Nope. SW. Not a safe seat but also not a marginal. MP works their socks off and some of it was also in the pipeline before the last election.
