No follow up jab booked?

JustTeach · 26/02/2021 20:07

I have had the Pfizer jab this week, and my card doesn’t have a date for my second one written on it, nor did I have the option on booking to also book the second one.
Family and friends have had the AZ and have all booked, or were given, their second date.
Does this mean they may not be giving the Pfizer follow ups? Or is it just a different system?

If they booked using the central system, you book the two appointments at the same time.

If you’re on the GP system, most don’t allow you to book both at the same time and you’ll be recalled for the second. I think a few have started booking the second one too, but most don’t.

RoundedTum · 26/02/2021 20:09

DP had Pfizer jab the week and they said someone would contact him with an appointment in 3-12 weeks.

Morph2lcfc · 26/02/2021 20:12

I had the Astra Zeneca jab couple of weeks ago and haven’t got a follow up date. I had at the doctors surgery so I’m expecting they’ll just call me to go up the next day like they did this time

JustTeach · 26/02/2021 20:16

Ahh it seems a mixed bag then, that answers my wonderings!

I booked my first through the GP system. It said I'd be contacted again to book the second later.

My mam had Pfizer before Xmas (nhs) and it’s two weeks til she hits the 12 week window for the second vaccine and they’ve just rang today for her to go tomorrow for it. I think with the Pfizer because of storage issues it’s just seeing where they have stock at the time. She’s not going to her local drs for it but it’s still only 15 min drive so she’s happy.

RedcurrantPuff · 26/02/2021 20:22

I didn’t get a card, had the AZ yesterday. I’ve assumed I’ll just be written to again with the next appt/

MoirasRoses · 26/02/2021 20:22

If you go via your GP, many are not booking in second appointments yet.

If you book via the online NHS website, you have to book both appointments at the same time.

Titsywoo · 26/02/2021 20:23

I work in care so booked on the central system and was offered the second date then

LIZS · 26/02/2021 20:26

Some centres arrange the second appointment there and then , others don't

HalfDutchGirl · 26/02/2021 20:54

I didn't have my second one booked, however, if you go on the vaccine booking site www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/ (not sure if that will work!) and scroll down you can book and manage your next appointment.

Have your NHS number to hand and it should recognise you've had your first and give you option dates for your second date so you can book it.

It worked for me, good luck.

EatingAllThePies · 26/02/2021 20:58

That's reassuring @Icantstopeatinglol as I have 3 family members waiting for second pfizer who haven't heard anything about 2nd appointment but they are about 10 weeks post first so fingers crossed they'll hear soon!

BruceAndNosh · 26/02/2021 21:02

I don't think it's dependant on which vaccine you get, it seems that GP hubs are not booking second jabs immediately, while the mass centres (where you book online) are doing second appts when the first is booked.

Oblomov21 · 26/02/2021 21:03

I was unimpressed by this. I couldn't understand it. I had the Pfizer , I had my date for 2nd booked. Dh, az , no 2nd date booked. Poor.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 26/02/2021 21:04

For my second pfizer jab I got a text and then a letter in the post.
Had it last Sunday, all good.
Funnily for the text I was in work, and the handyman walked in and said I just got a text for my second jab, then one by one all our phones went off with appointments for our second jabs.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 26/02/2021 21:46

I had Pfizer on Wednesday and the nurse booked my second appointment then and there.I had a text to confirm the booking
This was at GP's

Why does it matter?! You're both going to get a 2nd jab.

My mum had Pfizer and didn't have a 2nd jab booked. Got Called for it last week.

My dad had AZ and his his 2nd booked at the same time as booking his first.

Different systems dependant on how you book.

Nothing "poor" about it

Oblomov21 · 27/02/2021 06:10

I do think it's poor. It's poor planning. To me it's good business sense. I don't know the reason, but it doesn't seem sensible to me.

Early on, they they gave the dates for 2nd as you attended for your 1st. This means that they know, they can plan ahead for which patients are coming on what days. And it's good for the public. I like knowing when I'm going next. It also creates confidence.

Something must have changed.
Now. There's no schedule. No plans. No one knows when their 2nd is. It all has to be arranged. Re-arranged.

But when you think about it this is not good business sense because it was already arranged when they did the first and if they had just given them a appointment for the second there and then all the planning would've been done for them. now all the planning needs to be done again. I simply cannot accept this is good good business practice.

For any business. For any planning, for any operation.

This is a huge operation. And to not take advantage of the situation. Do not utilise the planning that had been done to create dose one attendees and their appointments and utilise that to already use the administration in place to automatically create appointments for dose 2, so that no further admin would be necessary does not seem sensible. to me.

Poor? Yeah I said poor. And I mean it.

I qualified through work on a different system to the NHS link online. I was given a QR code, but that wouldn't let me book another appointment for three days. I had the choice of three days, just before 12 weeks.

My Auntie's doctor originally phoned and booked her in at a local vaccination hub. Doctors surgery phoned again to rebook second vaccine (Pfizer) which she had this week ten weeks later.

My Mum had a letter for a small vaccination centre in town. She had Pfizer. I know many who have gone there and no one has had their follow up appointment date (their original letter gave them about three days notice, so could be a while before they hear).

This only works for people using the national booking system.

Most vaccinations (at this stage) were given by GPs and hospital hubs. As many Pp have explained they don’t use that system. GPs are not booking second dose automatically. They will call people when they get second dose vaccine supplied. And yes they might bring forward people if they have spare second dose supply of Pfizer. Obviously not with AZ.
