I'm due to have my first jab next week, and whilst I'm looking forward to it, I'm also quite nervous and need to prepare myself.
So, I want to hear from ONLY people who had severe side effects. How soon after the jab did they start? Were you physically sick? (I'm emetophobic) How long were you poorly for? Trying to prepare for the absolute worst case scenario, and then if I have anything milder it'll be a relief.

I think there are quite a few threads running on this OP.

Hello Op. I had the Pizer jab yesterday I am in group 6. The vaccination was completely painless! But about 10 mins afterwards my arm started throbbing and it got steadily worse. About four hours after I started to feel wiped out just totally exhausted , I could hardly keep my eyes open. During last night I had trouble sleeping as my arm is very painful so I took paracetamol which did not really help much. This morning I still feel wiped out, extreme tiredness and my arm is throbbing, heavy and stiff. My friend had hers last week and 24 hours afterwards she developed symptoms similar to a terrible hangover with a fever it lasted 24 hours and then she felt fine. I hope that helps a bit. Good Luck Smile

Op, this reads as an attempt to create a scary anti-vaccine thread about the vaccine causing horrible side effects. Apologies if that's not the case but that's how it reads. As pp said there are several threads running that describe a balance of side effects. Ranging from none at all to a a few days of feeling unwell. Maybe read through one or two of these if you want to "mentally prepare" ?

If you drive there then you have to sit for 15 mins after as a precaution much like everyone has to wait 5 mins after fli jab. If I were you I would probably plan to sit for 15 mins after, even if you don't and leave after 5 it is good to have a plan. Take someone with you if you can.

Tell the person you are nervous, they will be lovely.

The only noticeable reaction for me was I coughed a bit on the way home. From what I have read for those who do get side effects, the most immediate one is a sore arm and then in the evening or next day some flu like symptoms. I was very very tired for about 8 days (but I am on immuno suppressants so my respone probably took a while!). My advice is to drink plenty of fluid, have paracetomol and soup to hand and try and rest as much as possible. I would say that to anyone as it gives your body the chance to have the best immune response. You will be fine.

Definitely not wanting to create a scary anti vax thread, but I've seen quite a few people on other threads say they FELT sick after the jab, I'm wanting to see if anybody WAS sick after it, as that's what I'm terrified of. I don't mind if it makes me feel ill, I'm wanting to know if it's going to make me sick so I can beg some cyclizine off my GP before I have it.

You are running the risk of being sick because your anxiety will make you sick. The reason why placebos are vital in trials.

CoffeeDay · 27/02/2021 14:08

@ironytheoppositeofwrinkly I remember you from the pregnancy forums 2 years ago. Hope you are doing ok!

I'm also emetophobic and I've been scanning all the vaccine side effect threads for exactly the same thing. Even the worst cases only mentioned fever/chills and flu like symptoms. I have not seen a single account of someone actually being sick, and those are written by non-emetophobes who don't mind being sick. So it means that it's extremely rare.

I had Pfizer and very mild side effects (aching arm & tiredness after the first shot, slight headache after the second). Both times I took some paracetamol and it was gone. Out of the 10 people or so we know who had Pfizer, none had anything serious. Astrazeneca tends to cause more side effects however the few people we know also reported nothing at all.

But no one will be able to tell you if you're going to be sick.

I'd ask yr GP if you can have the medication you mention in case?

SparkysMagicPiano · 27/02/2021 17:22

If they are mentioning that they "felt" sick, do you not think that they might mention that they "were" sick?

Spodge · 27/02/2021 17:43

Would you not be better served with a thread title along the lines of "Has anyone actually vomited within x hours of their covid jab"? At least that would attract the immediate attention of those who have, assuming they read the Coronavirus board.

Cornettoninja · 27/02/2021 17:53

I think people are using ‘sick’ in the same way as ‘sick day’ from work (happy to be corrected). I haven’t seen anyone say they were nauseous or vomited. I think you might be taking it too literally.

Fwiw I had the Pfizer one and had joint pains and an achy arm for a couple of days. I was fine to work and parent though I would’ve happily stayed in bed.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 27/02/2021 18:22

I felt terrible for 36 hours - flu like symptoms but without any respiratory symptoms - but I didn’t feel nauseous at all.

I do think some people are saying they were “sick” as in “off sick”.

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 01/03/2021 09:14

Thank you for the reassuring responses, feeling much better now, my GP has said he'll prescribe me 3 cyclizine if it'll help my anxiety over getting the jab, so I'm happy.

@coffeeday, I'm having trouble placing you from the pregnancy boards, but I've been on and off them so many times in between losses 🙈
