When will close contact isolating end?

If all restrictions are due to be lifted on the 21st June (im dubious about this but for argument sake let's assume it happens), will close contact isolating end then too? Or before even? Will the positive person even need to still isolate for 10 days beyond the 21st June?

No one knows

Mindymomo · 26/02/2021 18:16

I doubt it until all adults are vaccinated and have had both doses. I would be happy to be wrong though.

Cornettoninja · 26/02/2021 18:59

I have no idea where they’re going to go officially with this but my gut feeling is it’s going to be around for a while yet. It’s a very basic method but it’s also pretty effective in the context of infection control.

The lower the community numbers are obviously you’re less likely to get caught by it.

Yes, I believe from what they have had said on 21st June it is as if covid never happened.

I think the opposite to you but it would be good to have a definite answer from those who decide these things.

PseudoBadger · 26/02/2021 19:27

This is a basic public health measure, which is nothing new for Covid. There have always been powers to ensure contacts of infectious diseases are made aware of exposure. I would suspect this will stick around.

Crazycatlady83 · 26/02/2021 19:27

Good question - we should definitely have the answer to this! When will they stop mass testing? When will we stop having to isolate (or our child having to isolate) for 10 days if they have a temperature, cough, loss of smell/taste etc?

I suppose I'm just struggling to comprehend how we go from where we are now to restriction free in just 4 months. I mean I hope its true, no one wants to go back to normal more than me.
Will isolating all of a sudden stop or will the amount of time and number of contacts reduce over time? Seems weird to think there will be no restrictions yet still having people isolating

I'm wondering how it fits with children and bubbles at school given that none of them will be vaccinated. Although once adults vaccinated the risk of making a parent or grandparent seriously ill is massively reduced. Can't imagine anyone being happy for it just to spread like wildfire.
I suppose in the meantime anyone who actually does get it and their immediate family should probably isolate.

StarCat2020 · 26/02/2021 21:04

@3littlewords
Hopefully as it becomes less prevalent in society there will be fewer cases of people needing to isolate.

TheAuthorityofJackieWeaver · 26/02/2021 21:09

Yes, I was wondering this. The endless bubble collapsing is really disruptive, DS4 has been isolated as a contact 3 times since September. Very hard for a 4 year old! (And he’s still not had it).

I’m also wondering when they will stop publishing death rates, infection rates etc every day. That will really feel like the end. I’d imagine there will a huge pushback from the anxious when it happens.

I was thinking about schoolchildren when I read 3littleword's post.

I cannot imagine the utter disruption that burst "bubbles" (hate that bloody word) must have caused to families.

Personally I think that there may still be occasional burst bubbles but that they will be few and far between.

I know your boy is only in primary but hopefully testing in senior schools will mean fewer cases staying in school and spreading around to other families (where their kids are in both primary and secondary).

Good luck
