When will y11 leave?

Have any of your schools given you any indication when your y11 will leave for good? It's normally early June with study leave from whit week but obviously this year is different.

The grades have to be submitted by mid June. Will they go then? Would you want them in school after that? The behaviour would be atrocious if they kept them in. Unless they finished a course for Alevel.

Prior to covid I had planned to take mine for a cheap holiday. Not now though.

Mid June. As soon as the assessments are submitted.

PolytheneHam · 14/03/2021 19:16

DD has been told that all work is to be completed by May 28th.

We've booked a UK holiday for mid-July to be on the safe side

katedan · 14/03/2021 20:53

It will be the Friday before half term, 21st May no difference to other years.

MrsHamlet · 14/03/2021 21:32

Not necessarily true. Many schools don't have study leave. Others start theirs earlier.
superram · 14/03/2021 21:52

Plus may half term is later and we don’t break up until 28th may. It’s unlikely kids won’t be needed back after half term but I wouldn’t be booking a holiday just yet.

AChickenCalledDaal · 14/03/2021 21:58

Ours are leaving year 11 on 28 May. But there will be some A level preparation sessions offered in late June/early July. And we have a date for a possible Prom mid July, if the stars align.

motherrunner · 15/03/2021 05:29

On our school calendar Yr 11 have their work experience slot in July. They usually do WEX in summer Yr 10 but for obvious reasons was shelved.

wanderlove · 15/03/2021 10:00

I'm a teacher and I have no idea! We are hoping that they will let them go after the grades are submitted mid June. If not it is going to be a nightmare keeping them occupied and behaving for no good reason. I'm thinking many may vote with their feet. Also the comment that an academy chain would give short term contracts is awful. I actually work for an academy chain and despite all the bad press find it a really good place to work and havent seen anything like that . Also think it's awful practice to put temporary teachers on Year 11 and Year 13. At our place you are not allowed any where near those year groups until you have worked there a couple of years and proved yourself. I can't believe there are places out there they do that. Awful

Comefromaway · 15/03/2021 10:03

@Wakemeuuuup

I think my son's school will keep them in as long as possible. I'm going for end of June. Some teachers are telling them it'll be May while others are saying July Smile
They can't keep them after the last Friday in June, surely as that is the official school leaving date.
Comefromaway · 15/03/2021 10:04

@Frozenintime

That's a really long time until they start college or sixth form in September Shock
As a parent of a child who was in Year 11 last year from March until September with nothing at all to do was an incredibly long time!
MerchSwyddEfrog · 15/03/2021 10:28

My ds has been told that their last day will probably be the Friday before half term by his form teacher.. The school have not confirmed this yet and I’m hoping they keep them and start preparing them for A levels. We are in Wales.

CateTown · 15/03/2021 10:44

Are you suggesting they leave as soon as possible or they stay in school for longer?

Comefromaway · 15/03/2021 10:52

Not suggesting anything, just replying to someone who said May - September was a long time.

CateTown · 15/03/2021 11:59

Oh OK. DD is Yr11 and I don't want them turfing her out too soon when there'll still be lots of restrictions in place so not much to do. But she won't appreciate staying on to do "enrichment" activities to the bitter end!

Comefromaway · 15/03/2021 12:09

I think they should leave on the last Friday in June as originally planned although I can understand those schools who dismiss them during May when exams would have been taking place. . Traditional leaving events can take place during late May/early June in whatever way that restrictions at the time allow.

Frozenintime · 15/03/2021 18:45

Is the citizens service running this year ?

RigaBalsam · 18/04/2021 13:01

My friends school have told them may half term.

We do not know yet at ours.

DonLewis · 18/04/2021 13:06

No news from my sons school yet. Exams run until 19th May.

There's been a suggestion of some A level prep sessions after that though.

WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 18/04/2021 13:51

26 June - a combination of A Level prep, careers and enrichment sessions and some fun stuff for them. DD isn’t thrilled but the programme looks great and it will be nice for them to have something fun and more grown up.

Wakemeuuuup · 18/04/2021 14:49

They've now been told the end of June. They'll get some 6th form transition, a bit of fun stuff but mainly working on finishing the curriculum.

The teachers really want to finish everything so the kids will be ready for 6th form.

A lot of local schools are finishing at half term , one I know of has told the kids they'll finish on May 20th which is ridiculous.

I'm very impressed that our school wants to keep them in.

Prom is booked for mid July so I'm really hoping that will happen

A girl in my form who isn't taking my subject at A level she is lovely but said to me 'to be honest miss after we have completed the evidence questions I am not coming in here to listen to you rhyme on about acceleration.I will be done. '

A lot of ours will vote with their feet but we don't have an attached Vi form. It was discussed that there could be some online activities and maybe a music concert but we will have to see.

Wakemeuuuup · 18/04/2021 17:10

@RigaBalsam I do wonder how they'll keep those who know they aren't staying for 6th form in. No doubt some of them will stop coming in. All of the schools in the area have 6th forms though so maybe other schools and colleges will say they need tobstayin school until the end to get their place. I'm probably wrong though

JustMeAndWheatley · 18/04/2021 17:40

At our school they’re staying until the end of the summer term but starting 6th form work after the May half term.

OrangeBananaFish · 18/04/2021 18:33

What if they're not staying on till 6th form? DS is going to college to do a trade as he has no interest whatsoever in A levels (he's clever enough though)

Horridcreature · 18/04/2021 18:53

I’ve heard quite a lot on here that some students have struggled a lot online and not covered as much as previous years. Are schools not offering extra sessions to cover this stuff especially the English and maths?
. employers now (if leaving education or while studying) or university or employer in future will have a problem if bright people have good GCSEs but may through no fault of their own have chunks missing of the syllabus.

I completely understand students may vote with their feet and some now find it harder to access due to poor MH, but is it on offer using all time possible for teaching as time is not needed for the exams?
