4 days on from Oxford - Swollen, painful arm

Just wondering if this is normal? I seem to have had quite a few side effects including diarrhea, shivers, headache, muscle pain etc. However most of that has now cleared up. My arm however feels no better than it did on Sunday. It is hot, itchy, swollen and come up in red in a lump on the injection site. It feels quite hard to touch and very painful. The closest thing I can describe it to is a heat rash.
The only other people I know who have had the vaccine have all had Pfizer and don't seem to have this issue. Wondering if anyone here can put my mind at ease? I wasn't expecting it to still feel like this and not had a reaction like this to an injection before.

I’ve had the same and am not worried. Everyone has a different set of reactions. We should both see improvement in the next couple of days.

Yeah my sore arm didn't start until a day or 2 later but was sore to the touch for a week or so - it's been quite common in others I know.

Try an antihistamine, and take paracetamol if it’s painful.
Absolutely leave it alone, don’t pick at it or keep touching it.

FamilyOfAliens · 25/02/2021 08:00

Could you take some anti-histamine and see how it is after a free days?

I’ve had this after vaccinations for travel and it normally goes away after a few days.

Londonnight · 25/02/2021 08:00

I had the AZ as did my son and had no side effects at all. But a friend of mine had the same vaccination and she had all the symptoms you describe. It did take about a week for her to feel better.

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 25/02/2021 08:03

Oh this has made me feel much better, thank you all. I hadn't thought of antihistamines but we have some in so I'll try that. It's not so much the pain but the itching is driving me mad. Many thanks!

Please complete the yellow side effects form it really helps the scientists understand the side effects.

Lovemusic33 · 25/02/2021 08:40

Mine hurt all week so I’m guessing it’s normal, I can still feel it now when I lie in it.

Iwasonceabrownie · 25/02/2021 10:30

Mine was swollen, itchy and red for over 2 weeks. 4 weeks on you can still see a faint bruise. I think I was just unlucky, I also had a temperature for about 24 hours.

DenisetheMenace · 25/02/2021 10:33

Heard one of the “experts” on the airwaves last week saying a mild/moderate reaction wasn’t to be worried about, just an indication that your immunity is kicking in.

Have you tried an antihistamine, might help your arm?

Slightly sore arm since the jab (last Saturday) which is now resolving (Oxford).
