Feeling totally forgotten in Wales

I’m fed up now. No, actually I was fed up before Christmas. I’m not sure what I am now.

I’m very angry at the Welsh government. I feel like this is all pathetic political point scoring. We need a plan - rates are low, the most vulnerable have been vaccinated, and still no one knows what on earth is happening or when we will be released from house arrest. My kids need to be back at school. I need to be able to have time to work and breathe. We need to see family.

I also incredibly frustrated with it all I could scream. The wet lettuces in government talking about caution and data make me want to throw things at the radio.

Having a down day with it all. It’s gone too far now, we need to be given a plan out of this - like England have! Sad

To be fair Scotland apparently has a routemap out of lockdown but it tells us nothing really except we are locked down until end of April.......

PutTheCakeDOWN · 24/02/2021 21:31

It’s shit isn’t it.

And I can’t believe that drippy Welsh Labour are planning to open up tourism before schools. That just makes me beyond furious. Twats.

I actually think Wales have got the better plan. I think everyone is fixated on 21st June and what he said was actually no sooner than.
I'm far from loving this by the way. I actually cried on 18th December when the rug was ripped from under us and I haven't been happy since.

landofgiants · 24/02/2021 21:35

I wonder if you are in my corner of Wales? Bloody council seem to have decided to keep schools closed for longer than everywhere else. I am beyond angry.

SpamIAm · 24/02/2021 21:36

I think what they've announced in England is ridiculous. Have they learnt nothing from the false promises they made at Christmas? I'm all for the more sensible approach here in wales, although I don't think they've got it right at all points. They're talking about getting more kids back to school at the next review, that's not later than tourism opening up?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 24/02/2021 21:39

I won’t be far from you giants but ours are still open. For now 🙄 only for 2 of my kids though.

Absolutely no solid plan for 8+ year olds to go back. Just drippy MPs dripping about telling us how safe they’re keeping us and how patient we all need to be.

@Northernsoullover in what POSSIBLE way have wales got a better plan!? We don’t have a fucking plan!! Except to Stay At Home for the next 10 years

They’re talking about opening up tourism at Easter. There’s no plan to get kids back until after Easter.

Children need to be back at school, the mental health payoff of this is going to make Covid look like a paper cut.

I think the plan is that all primary and some secondary (presumably GCSE and A Level years) will be back at school on 15th March.

Lupinhere37 · 24/02/2021 21:55

I am so raging, I can’t sleep. My yr 12 DD has been crying for two days, since hearing school in unlikely to return for her until 21st April. Due to ADD, she struggles to engage with online learning, although is largely able to cope in school itself. She’s distraught that her grades have slipped and thinks life is over. I’m terrified she may do something to herself.
The past year for her has been terrible and I am broken by it. I hate Welsh Labour with a vengeance; I really hope they get ousted now, although it’s unlikely.
It’s truly unforgivable that grown adults could throw youngsters to the wolves like this, in order to point score.
I am now dedicated to the anti Welsh Assembly cause. It needs to go. It’s just a vanity project for self serving egomaniacs, encouraged by delusional voters. I hate this political point scoring; it’s an embarrassment.
In any other walk of life, this pathetic anti English sentiment would be labelled as racist.

OP, I hear you.

As a welsh person now living over the border, i have to disagree with your message. I think England have dealt with this absolutely terribly but I do think a road map is necessary. He hasn't said that things will open on certain dates, he has simply said that things will open no earlier than X date. I think it is useful to know what will open when. How can someone getting married in May know whether to postpone or not if they don't even know if they are going to be allowed 6 or 30 people? At least if they know what the limit will definitely not be more than, they can decide what to do.

I find the road map really helpful as I'm a planner and I find the unknown harder. I now know that schools will go back and then I can meet another household outside. It will hopefully happen on the 29th but I know it may be after.

Wales need something similar and need to make it clear, like England that it will be no earlier than each date.

The Wales rules impact me too since most of my family live there plus my support bubble.

Where have you seen that? I can’t find a plan anywhere. Only hearsay.

@Lupinhere37 I’m so sorry for you. I totally agree with everything you say. I will never forgive those bastards for how they’ve used our children to point score. Never.

Exactly @HelloDulling
I just feel so powerless. It’s enough to make you want to riot.

It is sad isn't it 😞 I hope they give some clear ideas soon.
Lupinhere37 · 24/02/2021 22:07

@PutTheCakeDOWN

I’ll never forgive them either. I’m scared they’ll allow Easter tourists in, which will increase numbers and that will delay school opening further.

orangejuicer · 24/02/2021 22:08

It's frustrating but we're not out of the woods yet with vaccinations. I'm not sure England's plan is one to envy tbh.

Also WG has published an economic recovery plan so that's something. I assume the next review will have more info too.

BlackBrowedAlbatross · 24/02/2021 22:08

Kirsty Williams announced the other day that KS2 plus Y11 and Y13 will go back on 15 March, and the rest of secondary after Easter. KS1 are already back, two weeks before anyone in England.

So it's a phased approach, maybe a good idea as they will get more information about what happens to infection rates with each change.

The problem with England's roadmap is that so much can go wrong. They really don't know what will happen in April, let alone June. I am desperate for my Y10 and Y12 DC to go back, especially the Y12, who is basically not engaging at all, but we are still in a really precarious position, even with the vaccine. Sage papers published the other day forecast that lifting restrictions by the end of April would cause a fourth wave and risk doubling the current death toll. So I'm glad that Mark Drakeford is being cautious and not promising things he has no idea that he can deliver.

Frazzled2207 · 24/02/2021 22:11

im welsh living in England now but most of my family lives in wales so this affects me too. The numbers in December in Wales were horrifying but the lockdown has brought things right down so very low levels. I am just incredulous that for starters the no driving for exercise rule hasn't been loosened. What else do they expect to happen?

I am no fan of Boris but the dates we are given give us all a bit of hope and optimism and something to aim for. Wales has nothing other than potentially letting all the English tourists in? Is disgraceful.

Frazzled2207 · 24/02/2021 22:13

on a more positive note the vaccination programme is going full speed ahead with almost a third of the entire population now vaccinated. So once things do loosen, I think there's a very good chance it will be leaving things behind for the last time.

YardleyX · 24/02/2021 22:14

Lupinhere37 - absolutely agree with your comments on the Welsh Assembly. It’s been here 20 years and it’s a failure. Time to get rid.

Kirsty Williams said in her interview today that there must be 3 weeks between each stage of school opening. And that as 3 weeks after 15th March falls in the holidays, they would use the headroom in the R rate to open retail, hairdressers, and holiday accommodation.

I find it very hard to believe that even she really thinks that is a reasonable plan.

More likely, she’s is bowing to the pressure coming from Labour and the unions. Shamefully spineless.

OnceIWasAnApe · 24/02/2021 22:18

There are no set date because we don't know what is going to happen with covid. There are still parts of Wales that are at their peak.
The only way that the UK government has surpassed the Welsh Senedd is in its publicity drive.
I'm sorry that you're frustrated but people are dropping like flies in my area.
I had nothing to say to Drakeford before. I would absolutely vote for him now.
