Slightly sore throat and snotty nose

I have a slightly sore throat and snotty nose. Should I test?

I do have seasonal allergies so I've taken an anti-histamine to see if it's that but if that doesn't sort me out I'm thinking maybe I should even though I don't have any of the three official symptoms and feel well in myself.

Has anyone else had these symptoms and it turned out to be covid?

I'm also sneezing a lot.

Tree pollen season. Hazel and birch and maybe oak. Mid Feb to mid-March. Especially bad if it's been raining. Itchy eyes, nose, throat, swollen throat. Lots of sneezing. I hate this time of year. Drugged up to my itchy red eyeballs on sleepy antihistamines and SO grumpy.

Maybe it's that @Labobo. I do feel a bit better after a benedryl. I don't think I normally start with hayfever this early in the year though. I had his covid has made me so paranoid about every sniffle.

I had snotty nose, slight throat ache and sinus pain. Some temperature but not a fever. I didn't test because I didn't have any of the main symptoms.

Lots of people will come here and tell you they had covid after only having a headache and testing for it....

The same people also seem to have caught covid somehow never leaving their house.

Up to you if you want to test it out really. But probably unlikely. I personally test all the time now, just to alleviate my anxiety.

Mine's started already. Given that I'm going nowhere other than an an empty supermarket late at night once per week, I'm far more inclined to blame the hazel catkins 6m away from my kitchen window.

I tested positive in jan, from a lateral flow test that my workplace are using. I had a slight running nose that morning, I never would have guessed I had covid. Even once my symptoms developed, I didn't have any of the main three symptoms.

KylieKoKo · 24/02/2021 13:33

I'm pleased to report that the anti histamine as completely cleared it up so I'm pretty sure it's bastard tree pollen Grin

I started with the itchy throat and sneezing yesterday too. Define tree pollen, seems worse than usual for me as also affecting my eyes!

SnowyBranches · 24/02/2021 13:39

I’ve got slightly snotty nose and headache, slightly scratchy eyes, and I am sure it’s hay fever. Have taken an antihistamine. I do tend to get it early in the season, maybe not this early, but it surprises me every year and I spend a week thinking I have a cold before realising.

VerityWibbleWobble · 24/02/2021 13:43

Shit that's why my throat is sore and I've sneezed seventy billion time AND I have nose snots. The concept of time has vanished so I'd forgotten about bastard tree pollen.

Bettina500 · 24/02/2021 13:44

Sneezing isn't a symptom according to what it says online, so most likely a regular cold. My DS is currently unwell with these symptoms and has tested negative.

VeryScary · 24/02/2021 14:49

I have this today - loads of sneezing and a very snotty nose. It doesn’t feel at all like my usual seasonal allergies as my eyes are fine and I haven’t been outdoors. Feels like a head cold but I can’t think how I’ve caught it - I haven’t been anywhere. DH has been to the supermarket and the doctor but he has no symptoms so I presume I haven’t caught anything from him.

Weepingwillow22 · 24/02/2021 14:57

I only had a sore throat, blocked nose and headache when I tested positive. It is quite common not to have any of the three main symptoms

I have a sore throat today and haven’t been anywhere other than country walks for 2 weeks. My first thought was hayfever but I thought too early. Seeing this thread makes me think it’s not.
Debating whether or not to test.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/02/2021 18:44

My hay fever always starts around the end of February. I've had a itchy throat and sniffy nose for a few days now. Unfortunately I have a cough with hay fever so I've got another year of waiting to be lynched when I go out!

Mindymomo · 24/02/2021 18:58

I think my hay fever has started as my throat feels rough, it was discussed on tv last week that hay fever from tree bark could be even earlier this year, due to recent warm weather. I suffered badly last year, but not this early.

Enterthedragons · 24/02/2021 19:01

Yep those were my exact symptoms and I had it. Never would have thought to test until taste and smell completely disappeared a few days later!

Littleguggi · 24/02/2021 20:31

I have had the same symptoms for the past few days but the lateral flow tests I do for work have all come back negative so I'm certain it's just a regular cold!

Katie517 · 24/02/2021 20:46

I think it’s hay fever. I went for a walk in the forest this afternoon and have coughed, sneezed and had runny eyes since I got back . The same thing happened this time last year as well.
