Been offered the vaccine, no idea why

I’ve been sent a vaccine appointment for next week despite being in my 30s and perfectly healthy. I know that our local area is starting groups 6 and 7 next week (Facebook post from the local trust), so I can only assume that there is an error somewhere in my records that is showing me as clinically vulnerable (like the infamous 6.2cm man). I was called for flu jab this year, but assumed it was because I had asthma but I haven’t needed medication for 10 years now (and my understanding is only the most severe asthmatics are classed as CV).

I am tempted to just take it. I work as a teacher so am much more exposed than most at the moment, however I’ve never been particularly anxious about catching it in school. On the other hand I know it’s queue jumping, and I also want to find out what the mistake is in my records. Wwyd?

I would just take it.

AgnesNaismith · 23/02/2021 19:08

Argh, another of these threads? Sorry OP there have been what feels like 100s so far.

Take the vaccine
You might go to the back of the queue if not
You won’t be taking someone else’s place
The priority list is going too slowly in some areas
There’s plenty of capacity
One less person to vaccinate
You have to have it so why not now?

Think I’ve covered everything.

FuzzyTurquoise · 23/02/2021 19:09

Can’t you do both? Take it and find out what the reasoning behind it is, because it might not be an error.

ChocOrange1 · 23/02/2021 19:09

There have been a lot of threads on this. The general consensus is to take it. The red tape involved would take more time than just having the vaccine.

LindainLockdown · 23/02/2021 19:12

Take it! It will cause more hassle for the GP/NHS at the moment to cancel/rebook.

Look into it later when the NHS is under less pressure, and not many people would resent a teacher getting vaccinated surely.

I would also personally be concerned that if I declined I would somehow be then at the back of queue so I get called early I'm going!

Librarybooksandacoconut · 23/02/2021 19:14

Sorry, I had a quick scan of the current threads and didn’t see any others.

I suppose I’m worried because I work with a number of colleagues in their 50s who are really anxious and are desperate for their vaccine and it doesn’t feel very fair. I’m also selfishly worried that highlighting the error is going to push me right down the list.

OP posts:
LindainLockdown · 23/02/2021 19:15

Those colleagues should be getting it within 6 or 7 weeks. Take it.

Jackie2022 · 23/02/2021 19:17

These threads are so fucking annoying. Just take it. Every adult will be vaccinated in a few months, does it really matter if you have yours now?

Jackie2022 · 23/02/2021 19:19

Also why does everyone act baffled when they’re invited for a vaccine and have asthma?😂

You are not an adult with zero health conditions. Asthma is a health condition, and for the majority of the pandemic was considering a potential susceptibility for more serious COVID-19. The fact that you have asthma is the reason why you have been invited other people with absolutely no health conditions

Librarybooksandacoconut · 23/02/2021 19:23

@Jackie2022 I’m very sorry that I’ve annoyed you, you could just ignore me like most people would? Personally I’m ok with just taking it, what I’m actually worried about is being massively judged for being a cheeky fucker.

Librarybooksandacoconut · 23/02/2021 19:27

I really don’t consider myself to have asthma, I haven’t really since I was 12. I’ve had one ventolin prescription in 20 years, and that was a result of recurring chest infections after having really bad flu. Our gp practice has been really clear in SM posts that those with mild asthma aren’t considered clinically vulnerable, so it feels unlikely that that is the reason.

OP posts:
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 23/02/2021 19:27

Yeah, take it. You're probably about 6 weeks ahead of where you would be anyway. Morally teachers should have been in an earlier group anyway.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 23/02/2021 19:29

Oh, don't tell anyone if you're concerned about it. I've told my boss and parents that I'm in group 6, but no one else. The reason I'm in it, happened 24 years ago.

partyatthepalace · 23/02/2021 19:52

Anyone who judges you is really fucking thick.

It’s a mass vaccination programme. The key thing is turn up when you are told to and roll up your sleeve. Any fannying about just slows down the process - the system can’t cope with it.

nordica · 23/02/2021 20:04

Just take it - you declining won't speed up the queue for your colleagues anyway.

There have been a few threads about similar and I also saw posts in our local Facebook group. Sometimes it seems to be just very random. A local friend in her early 50s was just offered hers last week (she is not clinically vulnerable or a health care worker, which is why she was asking on FB wondering why too).

TheByngster · 23/02/2021 20:11

Same here. I had yesterday. I contacted the surgery and they were adamant. Take it!

Veuvestar · 23/02/2021 20:14
