How long does a vaccination take?

In a mass vaccination centre, not the doctors.

Trying to figure out the best time to book around dp working and dc who I probably can’t take with me.

How long do they take to get you done? Do you have to rest for 15 minutes before driving home?

Depends I suppose on the organisation.
At our hub around 30-40 mins by the time you have checked in, answered the questions and taken your form. Then sit with the vaccinator, confirmed your details and signed the form. Get injection then follow the route to the observation area to sit for 15 minutes for Pfizer. If AstraZeneca then advice is to sit in car for 15 mins before driving off.

I have heard of poor people queuing in the cold for over an hour before even getting in in a larger hub but no clue why there was such a delay, or even if that was a one off, or a daily occurrence tbh.

Less than 10 minutes at our local surgery,
There was no observation area but advice to wait for 15 minutes before driving. I didn't.

My DH was 5 minutes in and out. I went to another centre and was 40 minutes, they just pissed about as far as I could see. We both had the AZ, he was allowed to leave immediately, I was asked to wait for 10 mins.

I was about 20 minutes - large local pharmacy. 15 waiting time and 5 for the jab. No waiting after, just a check that I wasn’t driving home.

It was a weekend though so possibly quieter in the week.

I’ve heard that a lot of the queues at the hubs are people arriving too early - they won’t let you in until 10 mins before your appointment for obvious reasons, but some people like to arrive an hour beforehand.

The fastest place is said to be Superdrug in our city centre, straight in & out within 5 minutes.
Hubs are apparently taking around 40 mins as the hub is doing extra steps eg checking your temperature on entry

Mine yesterday took 3 minutes. Literally that. I had no waiting time because I had AZ, the Pfizer requires a 15 minute wait.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 23/02/2021 17:22

Mine was probably 30 mins, including a 15 min wait after having the vaccination.

fourquenelles · 23/02/2021 17:24

I had AZ yesterday at a pharmacy serving a large town. In and out in less than 5 minutes.

C231009 · 23/02/2021 17:27

Thanks all. I’ve booked an early morning app. They open at 8 I believe I’ve booked 8.15 arrival so hopefully won’t be too long. Think it’ll be AZ we know a few people who have had them at same place and tend to be AZ! Dp is always at work and I don’t want to take dc with me (probably not allowed anyway) so I’ve booked a time and hopefully it’ll be done before he starts work else he’ll have to be late 🤣

I had pfeizer at a hub so 30 minutes max.

That was from parking to being back at car!

5 minutes in waiting room, 5 having vaccine, 15 observation and the time either side!

TheHobbitMum · 23/02/2021 17:35

I was in and out in 5 mins, didn't have to wait after as I wasn't driving as I had the Oxford vaccine. It was very well set up and no one had any wait

mynameiscalypso · 23/02/2021 17:36

I had Pfizer and they said we could go after about 5 mins. The whole thing was incredibly efficient.
