and want the UK to stay in a lockdown of sorts regardless?

I, cautious and careful but not anxious. Ive worked in my workplace face to face throughout.

I just get the feeling now we have a way out - vaccination, some don't want to look forward and to hold onto the past

ive also had 3 family deaths in 6 months and life has been a struggle at times

We have to slowly and carefully move forward and the vaccination is going to give great protection

There are parts of it I don't want to end. I've had to start calling around to find child care for my youngest when things are a little more open and that's bringing up some unpleasant feelings. Not thrilled about DH going back to commuting, and some of the stress that comes with that -- we've enjoyed WFH together.

But largely, yes, I can't wait for the DC to be back in school, for routines to re-establish, for travel and family gatherings and my friends' long-postponed weddings and all of that. I've already had 2 doses of the Pfizer so hurry it up! :D

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/02/2021 13:49

Yeah, my boss (I’m a nanny) has not been into work for almost a year despite having a huge office in her chambers she could go and work in. But no, everything has to be done at home, loud lawyer phone calls pacing up and down then poking her nose in downstairs while I’m trying to do MY job in MY place of work, and homeschooling her children. Just fuck off back already and leave us to it!!! It would be very beneficial to ALL of us if she returned but she can’t see it.

Today has been a struggle Grin

glitterelf · 23/02/2021 13:52

I think it's more a case that people couldn't bare another lockdown if we rush out of this one. I know that I can just about tolerate this one but easing too fast or another variant pushing us back into a lockdown I know I won't cope with that.

As a family in the last year we've had a cancer diagnosis and we've lost loved ones unrelated to covid but due to covid we have been unable to grieve properly.

My child's schools isn't doing all it can to protect pupils and staff so I'm considering keeping her off until Easter unless the school will stick to not mixing of bubbles. It's not a case of being scared or loving the lockdown life it's about limiting risks and preventing another lockdown.

chipsandpeas · 23/02/2021 13:54

i would rather stay in lockdown than rush out and in a few months we are back in it again

Sillyduckseverywhere · 23/02/2021 14:06

Some people seem to absolutely love it.
I cannot wait for this bullshit to end.

why will we go back into lockdown? lockdown is to stop NHS being overwhelmed, why do you think that would happen?

olympicsrock · 23/02/2021 17:57

Why would the NHS be overwhelmed- pretty obvious really . If we come out of lockdown too early with too many cases circulating in the community / or another new variant it would be very easy for case numbers and deaths to shoot up again. Waiting reduces the chances of this happening.

It’s almost inevitable that this will happen again next winter anyway.

ivykaty44 · 24/02/2021 12:02

olympicsrock With 20 million having some immunity to the virus and vaccination ongoing which reduces the serious illness and admission to hospital where are you getting the patient from to overwhelm hospitals?

There are parts I like: working from home, saving money, having DH around more and not having an endless lot of pressure to be seeing family and friends on weekends while ferrying DS to swimming and going to church.

But, it can’t go on forever- we need and want to see family; the GPs are missing out on so much of DS’s development, my DH really misses friends and it’d be nice to hold proper birthday parties and gatherings for DS/go swimming etc.

It’s been very 50:50 for us, and we had Covid at one stage, though mercifully quite mildly.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 24/02/2021 12:22

I prefer this way of living but I understand I'm very much the minority and the world needs to get back to some kind of normal for economic and mental health reasons.

LindaEllen · 24/02/2021 12:27

I don't want to stay in forever, I just think that expecting things to be normal by June 21st is unrealistic.

MedusasBadHairDay · 24/02/2021 12:29

I don't know anyone who wants to stay in lockdown forever, but I do know people who have vulnerable children (who are not being vaccinated) who are understandably nervous about coming out of lockdown while the virus is still circulating at quite high numbers - no matter how much lower those numbers are than at the peak.

I would like some elements of lockdown to change what we regard as normal, eg. Virtual gigs/meetings and wfh have been wonderful for disabled people

isseys4xmastinselcats · 24/02/2021 12:36

As a healthy working two jobs normally 64 year old person i cant wait to get back to work, see my friends and family, go out for a meal when i want to, the only place i have been in all the lockdowns has been the supermarket once a fortnight to buy food and i am now climbing the walls had enough dont care what others in here think lockdown is not good for everyone

OwlBeThere · 24/02/2021 12:38

For some people this way of life suits them better, I don’t see why that’s wrong?
My daughter has ASD, PTSD and social anxiety, lockdown has worked wonders on her mental health. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.

I was about to say something very similar - that for some people, not having the external pressure of having to socialise suits them.

I also hope that things like live streaming of gigs/theatre, working from home, virtual meetings will continue in the future in order to help people with disabilities to access them.

OwlBeThere · 24/02/2021 13:21

Absolutely @SkepticalCat (love your name btw 😂)

Zandathepanda · 24/02/2021 13:30

It would have cost a fortune to see all the plays I have seen at the theatre online. We can’t ‘do’ London without an overnight stay so I reckon we’ve seen a couple of grands worth.

Also fab for people who can’t access the theatre due to disabilities.

Long may it continue.

FOJN · 24/02/2021 13:42

Lockdown life undoubtedly suits some people but I think many people are trying not to get their hopes up about how quickly life will return to normal, it's probably a protective mechanism against worries we'll end up in another lockdown if a vaccine resistant variant gets into circulation. There are other people who are opposed to lockdown and use people's understandable caution about opening everything too quickly as a stick to beat them with and accuse them of loving the harm lockdown causes.

There will be a very small number of people delighting in everyone's frustration/misery with the current situation and wanting it to continue for mean spirited reasons.

BlackBucketOfCheese · 24/02/2021 13:59

lockdown is to stop NHS being overwhelmed, why do you think that would happen?

“All four scenarios modelled lead to a substantial
resurgence in hospital admissions and deaths."

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/963400/S1116_SPI-M-O_Summary_of_modelling_on_scenario_for_easing_restrictions.pdf

I don’t want to be stuck in lockdown forever but I’d like to see larger gaps for analysis between each stage of the rollback of restrictions.
