Enjoying the next few months

Following on from some of yesterday’s positivity, I thought it would be nice to have a thread about how to not just “get through” but actually enjoy the next few months.

I’ve been very lucky throughout this – I haven’t lost income, haven’t been homeschooling, and haven’t lost anyone to the virus. On the other hand, I live alone and haven’t seen my family and most of my friends since summer. Yesterday’s announcement felt great, and I’d like to keep that positivity going.

So, as much of the easing is still a while away, how is everyone planning to make the best of next few months? Some of my plans:

  • Enjoy getting up later thanks to no commute
  • Cover my balcony in beautiful geraniums
  • Organise my wardrobe so that when we can go back to normal I will look nice 😊

What is everyone else planning?

I’m going to try and keep my business going and try not to make anyone redundant.

Does that count...

motherrunner · 23/02/2021 13:00

Trying to not get ill when I go back into the classroom.

firstimemamma · 23/02/2021 13:01

Try to keep going with my toddler. Up early every morning and trying to keep him entertained.

MarisPiper92 · 23/02/2021 14:35

I think these count. Sometimes just getting through the day intact is enough.

I'm also still working and not needing to homeschool as DS has a KW place.

I'm starting to eat healthier in an attempt to lose some weight. I work outside the home so I walk to work every day which is good exercise. I want to feel good about the way I look again. Then hopefully buy some nice new summer clothes!

I'm meeting a friend for a walk this weekend who I haven't seen since August. I'm looking forward to re connecting with people.

I am really looking forward to restrictions easing off. Something I properly appreciated for the first time last year, was seeing the trees slowly turn green, and ‘befriending’ all the different birds that should start appearing in 3-4 weeks. It was really warm here today and I actually realised spring is closer than I thought.

I can’t bloody wait to see my family and friends and get out of this, but I plan on enjoying one more quiet and calm spring before I start not even noticing these small things again.

I haven't done any self care at all, and since March last year my life has basically been surrounded by children 24/7. I have hated every second of homeschooling and my husband has been still going to work as normal, leaving me with the kids 5 days a week, sometimes six. I have had absolutely no freedom at all. Apart from when I go to the toilet and to bed.
I'm not 100% happy with the risk and of them going back to school but I need them to if my mental health is going to stay intact.
So...... When they first return (I'm a housewife so will finally be alone between 9-3) I am going to have some pamper sessions, baths, reading, sort my wardrobe out, colour my hair, paint my nails etc.
Then after a couple of weeks the weather should be warmer and I'm going to get in the garden and enjoy the outdoors, try to spend time with my mum in the sunshine, visit relatives and friends without the kids so I can actually have an adult conversation. I can't wait!

I’ve lost 7lbs in the last 3 weeks just eating healthily and walking each day. I’m feeling so much better than I did in January - so I’m just going to continue with that really so that when the nice weather hits I can wear some nice skirts and dresses and feel good!

Also booked a weekend away at end of April so I have that to look forward to as well as my summer holiday. I’m just so relieved it looks like they’ll be going ahead.

KnitFastDieWarm · 23/02/2021 15:01

This is a nice idea! Once DC are back at school I plan to work to more of a schedule, get out for walks at lunchtime, do a bit of indulgent daytime telly watching, and just breathe a bit.
Oh, and browse online for summer clothes for when we’re all let out! Grin

VeryScary · 23/02/2021 15:01

I live in a very popular holiday destination so I’m going to make the most of really enjoying my town and its surroundings before it gets rammed.

MarisPiper92 · 23/02/2021 15:04

I'm glad people are finding things to look forward to. I love the idea of befriending birds - I can hear loads of them in my local park, but the trees are so tall I can never see them. Perhaps I'll help myself to a bench next time and try to spot them.

It's amazing how things like a haircut and a cup of tea with someone have become things we're so excited about. I really hope they happen as expected!

I’m painting & decorating my new house. So it’ll be all nice & ready for when people can finally come & see it 🥳

DD’s will still go to nursery, so no change there. But I think I’ll buy some new makeup for the first time in a year, maybe some new jeans 😂

starfish4 · 23/02/2021 15:17

I've had my first vaccine and DH has just had his. We're going to enjoy being able to relax if someone gets too near us, but at the same time it's made me even more determined not to catch it as I know not everyone has been vaccinated.

DD has been waiting for an operation for a year, had a call yesterday asking if it was ok for NHS to add her to a private waiting list and had a letter for a pre-op assessment appointment, so looks like something's happening there. She's having to go in every three months as an emergency, but can't really needs the main op.

I've been going on a walk every day and at the moment it's lovely to see the spring bulbs. I love read and have a few books lined up to read. I need to tidy the house and back garden (front garden done last week).

We haven't got a full week we can book together, but am looking at booking a couple of short uk breaks later in the year - I love planning a holiday. From what my friends have said I think they'll all still want to be careful, but looking forward to a glass of wine in a garden with them and also coffee after work with my friend/colleague.

Howshouldibehave · 23/02/2021 15:24

Going out to work every day in a very small classroom where the children don’t wear masks, there is no space to social distance and the windows barely open. I will find that pretty stressful to be honest, so I don’t think I’ll be enjoying that very much.

Looking forward to the summer when I should get a vaccine.

PhantomErik · 23/02/2021 15:26

I'm going to keep going with homeschooling until the 8th then I'm having a couple of days to relax/enjoy the silence etc.

After that I'm going round the house & filling bags for the charity shop so as soon as they open I can donate/dump as appropriate!

Also really looking forward to seeing my DM, I've taken her shopping to her throughout & had brief doorstep chats but it's not the same.

Just been chatting to my DC about after all this is over & they were so excited about going swimming & maybe a holiday!

IrishMamaMia · 23/02/2021 15:27

I like this thread OP. I'm back at work soon on (school). Hoping to do some yoga and get a bit of work done in the garden beforehand :)

JesusAteMyHamster · 23/02/2021 15:33

I'm beavering away as normal.........and hoarding money do I can spend it when the good times roll back in.

Globe22 · 23/02/2021 16:05

Going to school, waiting for my vaccine, hoping not to catch covid again, meeting up with folks as soon as possible when allowed, and looking forward to the summer to escape!

I don’t know why teachers aren’t high priority for vaccines. It’s madness.

LottieDot · 23/02/2021 17:04

I'm due my first child in approx 3 weeks so I'm looking forward to enjoying my maternity leave with him and getting out for nice walks with the pram in the nicer weather. I'm also looking forward to seeing friends and family, even if it ends up being outdoors etc.

We're also excited about a first family holiday, maybe a little UK break this year and a nice sunny Europe holiday next summer!

Powerof4 · 23/02/2021 18:44

Enjoying spring flowers and birdsong and going out without wearing a duvet! I’m also with you on a bit of a wardrobe rethink. I’d also like to tackle my garden so we can have people round when it’s allowed.

YetAnotherWalk · 23/02/2021 19:00

We were very very cautious in the summer and didn't do anything inside when cases were low. Don't think I'd waste the opportunity if I'd know what was ahead and that we'd be here a year on... so we will be doing as much as we can do within the constraints - hopefully my DH who is over 50 will be vaxxed soon so I can feel a bit more at ease about it all.

somuchcoffeeneeded · 23/02/2021 19:03

Not sure I’ll enjoy giving birth very soon and I’m desperately sad that my family and friends can’t meet the baby easily but I am delighted that DH will still be WFH so I won’t be all by myself with a newborn. I will enjoy DH being at home even if he’s working hard.

itsgettingwierd · 23/02/2021 19:07

I'm very severely iron deficient.

It's caused weight gain, cold feet, sore joints and frequent headaches.

I'm going to keep going with medication and healthy eating so when we can get out and about again I feel better and can enjoy it with some energy!

I'm going to use this slower pace of life for a few more months to enjoy the fact it's helping when I can't do much and remember if I could be out and about (beyond my job!) I'd not manage it so remind myself I'm not missing out (iyswim?!)
