I've lost track - group 6 should I have had vaccine yet?

I've heard nothing.

Some of my friends with no underlying health conditions (not carers, health workers, older people etc.) have had theirs but no sign of mine.

I phoned GP and they said they wouldn't (wouldn't not couldn't) give me any information as they didn't want people calling them about it. THey also wouldn't confirm whether or not I was marked group 6 on their system even though I should be according to government guidelines.

I'm getting a bit stressed and confused by the whole thing. It's stupid but it feels like the final straw that the GPs are being so off hand and unhelpful.

Utterly bizarre - within less than a minute of posting this, my GPs surgery phoned to give me an appointment for Thursday afternoon.

Apparently I am marked as group 6.

That's weird!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 23/02/2021 09:49

fabulous news! It must be so frustrating not knowing. Group 6 is so big and there will be errors in the database but I can understand that it would take longer for GPs to go through each case history on the phone than to just book appointments as fast as they can.

Great news Cotton! There are 17.5 million people in the groups that are considered higher priority than group 6. We’ve currently vaccinated 17,723,840 people so are roughly 223,840 people into group 6. But there are 7.3 million in group 6 in total, so it sounds like you’re one of the early ones!

Group 6 are being done in my area the South West and gave been for a week or so.

Really high levels of take up and already vaccinated in the other groups here

cottonwoolbrain · 23/02/2021 10:43

Very relieved especially with children going back to school soon. I don't think I'm particularly at a higher risk of GETTING it but I am at a higher risk of the impact on me if I do.

That said, I think I had it mildly last year but I'm not sure that's teh trouble.

@buttery81 the really frighten thing about that chart is how many people have an underlying health condition :(

We had our yesterday, group 6. I believe a group of GP surgeries working together. ( rang by my surgery but actually seen at another nearby. )

Based on the number that were there and the speed we cleared, I would say they are doing roughly 500 a day maybe more. Really well organised, wish it wasn't in the same building as my dentist as I have a toothache and am currently wondering if I can last a couple of weeks.

The person in front of us was turned away as they had tested positive in the last 7-10 days. ( didn't catch which of the two it was) fingers crossed they weren't still contagious, they did have their back to us the whole time, we were 2 meters apart and outside. I am hoping that they had had symptoms before they got tested and were outside the 10 days.

ittakes2 · 23/02/2021 12:08

Dryadia - dentists are open around where we live - have you checked your's is open?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 23/02/2021 12:17

Depends where you are. Gp 6 started here this week, where my parents live they are well through it already.

Dryadia · 23/02/2021 12:40

ttakes2 - It is open, but the building has the GP surgery currently doing all the vaccines, a pharmacy and the dentist. I really want my vaccine to have time to work before going back in there. Neither of us drive, so it would be a taxi there and back too. There were loads of taxi's there yesterday dropping off and picking up. So that is a lot of people.

I think the person in front of us admitting they had just tested positive doesn't fill me with confidence.

We both had covid in May, I took over 6 weeks to actually even start recovering and that was only after having steroids, my breathing has been bad ever since, asthma meds are now at a level I have never had to have before and I get breathless and tired just working from one room to another.

Asthma was really, really well controlled before all this. I really don't want to risk coming down with covid again as I am now in a completely different physical condition to last year. I have never recovered from something so slowly before.

Luckily the ache is just a low level annoyance at the moment, but will have to go in the next few weeks.

Comefromaway · 23/02/2021 12:43

My parent's (aged 65 plus) got a text last week for their vaccination. My husband (carer) got a text from the same surgery this afternoon).

However the other GP surgery based in the same health centre sent for their over 65's 3 weeks ago and were vaccinating their carers last week and this week.

So it really does depend on how far ahead your particular surgery are.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/02/2021 14:04

I'm group 6 in Wiltshire and having mine tomorrow in local GP surgery
Take up is very high here, so I wasn't expecting to be invited this soon
The window for group 6 is 23 Feb-23 March, so I hope that reassures you a little

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/02/2021 14:06

Apologies it's 29 March! Dreadful eyesight!

@cottonwoolbrain

How old are you? I’m group 6 but haven’t heard anything yet.

hellojim · 23/02/2021 14:28

I've just received text to book mine tomorrow.

cottonwoolbrain · 23/02/2021 17:43

@Violetsarered I'm 45.

I'm not sure if they're doing group 6 by age or some other way.

@uncomfortablydumb53 I didn't realise that the group 6 window has only just opened. Looked like I've been really lucky to be called so quickly then.

I'm now panicing because even though I wrote it down I'm wondering if I put down the right time or if she actually said half an hour earlier. I really am living up to my username at the moment. I'm going to have to double check aren't I?

@cottonwoolbrain
Don't worry Your user name could be mine!
I had a text confirmation from my health centre when I booked yesterday and also a text reminder today( mine's tomorrow) but I obv don't know if it applies everywhere
Hopefully it will in your case too

cottonwoolbrain · 25/02/2021 15:50

All done and they did DP at the same time as he drove me there and they had spares from people who'd not turned up.

I could not believe how efficient it was - in and out in less than 20 minutes including 15 minutes sitting down making sure we didn't have any immediate ill effects.

Sitdowncupoftea · 25/02/2021 15:54

I think its down to postcodes. However your GP is responsible and they have not updated records for many. Check the GP has you in group 6.
