Anyone else feel like they should feel excited

But actually feel a bit nervous?

Of course there is good news! And well needed. But I also feel a bit sad because things will be very much back to normal and yet covid is still here, vaccines not offered to all adults until end of July (and that's only the first one) and there are the other variants etc. It won't be foolproof. A number of us will still get sick and die. And I don't want to get sick. I feel like I can't return to proper normal life even though a lot of the population will. It's all just a bit strange!

Not trying to be negative. Anyone else?

No it won’t be fool proof. But we’ve got to try haven’t we? We can’t stay locked in forever, and if vaccines keep hospitalisation and deaths low then that’s good enough isn’t it? I’m perfectly happy to go back to normal even though I may not have had the vaccine yet.

Thefamilybusiness · 22/02/2021 20:50

Yes, exactly as you say. I want to feel positive but I'm nervous which is a bit odd as I've worked throughout lockdown (preschool).
Not sure why but tonight's announcements made me feel a bit uneasy.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/02/2021 20:54

I feel similar, would have been better if the changes where when vaccinations were all done in the first round and most of the second.

With all the mixing that will go on, it feels like we could end up back in heavy restrictions again with many casualties of ill health and worse. Although appreciate we need an economy for our childrens future.

userxx · 22/02/2021 20:57

God no, can't wait to get in the pub beer garden. Really not arsed but haven't been throughout to be honest.

Scottishgirl85 · 22/02/2021 20:58

Life is full of risks, covid is just one of them. The vulnerable are vaccinated, time to start living again. I'm excited.

RhubarbTea · 22/02/2021 20:59

I feel exactly the same - nervous and a bit uneasy.

Racoonworld · 22/02/2021 20:59

Apart from schools, which is a controversial topic, everything else is opening very slowly and all outside. Indoor hospitality and mixing isn’t until mid-May. Outdoor mixing has always been low risk. This plan is actually quite sensible.

Racoonworld · 22/02/2021 21:00

It’s also coming at a time when the weathers getting better, people will be happier to stay outside in spring. It’s much more inviting to go sit in a garden for a bbq in the sunshine then when it’s raining and cold.

SonnetForSpring · 22/02/2021 21:01

I'm not nervous. I'm slightly excited. I think maybe they all let all schools go back as it will give a good indication if the impact a couple of weeks after and then it is Easter holidays. So I guess they are testing the water as there are so many unknowns. I really don't think anyone can guess what's going to happen as there are too many unknown quantities. So I have my fingers crossed but if it doesn't work and we have to go slower, that will be fine too. To be honest, I think the worst part is over. Lock down nov to now has been hard but spring and summer are on their way Smile

SingToTheSky · 22/02/2021 21:06

I think I just feel flat really. I’ve missed so much of normal life but can’t actually believe it could return in a way. I’m just exhausted.

Popsy321 · 22/02/2021 21:09

God no, I'm thrilled and excited. Hairdressers is booked already, I'm about to book some restaurants and a few nights away. Just got to crack on with losing the lockdown weight now 😁

everythingisstillginandroses · 22/02/2021 21:09

When Alexander tells me the sun is shining, I fetch my brolly.

vaxmeup · 22/02/2021 21:18

Totally agree OP and felt like I was the only nervous one. I just can’t feel excited about thousands more people dying, I don’t want that to be my parents. I’m just hoping the vaccines reduce transmission significantly. Otherwise even doing essential things like going for medical appointments will become even more risky than now for the elderly and vulnerable.

I know we can’t stay locked down forever though and as we’re not aiming for zero Covid I’m not sure there is a better plan than the one presented today.

Nme8961 · 22/02/2021 21:22

To be honest I'm shocked people are feeling so positive. Outwardly I feel like I will need to make positive comments when I see people face-to-face, but it's completely empty for me.

Boris has set dates for normalcy since this all began, presumably to give us hope, but every time it goes TU. Everything was going to be back to normal by the summer, by the time students went back to school in September, then by Christmas etc. Why should I think this is going to be any different?

My real feelings are that Boris has no real idea when things will get back to normal, anymore than I do. The problem isn't the restrictions, it's the virus and we have no idea how the virus will behave in real life. The vaccines might help, or they might not help as much as we are hoping. The virus might mutate to be more dangerous, or to escape the vaccines.

I want normalcy, more than anything. I have not seen my family in over a year -- sadly I just can't cling to hope anymore without clear evidence it's actually going to be different this time.

CrispyLeaves · 22/02/2021 21:23

People get sick from many more things other than coronavirus. Are you perpetually sad about all of those potential diseases too?

I don't want to sound mean but what you're saying doesn't make sense.

minipie · 22/02/2021 21:24

A number of us will still get sick and die. And I don't want to get sick.

There have always been illnesses.

AuntieMarys · 22/02/2021 21:26

I certainly feel a lot more positive. I've booked hairdressers and beauty salon. And tomorrow will book local restaurant.

Many of the vulnerable aren’t vaccinated yet.
Harrykanesrightsock · 22/02/2021 21:31

I’m hopeful and positive. I’ve worked throughout so have no feelings of nervousness. It’s just bringing back the things in between work and housework that make life fun. Can’t wait.

I don’t think there are many other infectious diseases (with a high risk of a fatal outcome/ long term side effects for those who survive) circulating at such high prevalence in the UK though?

‘Many of the vulnerable aren’t vaccinated yet’

But there is four months before hopefully full release. We need an exit plan to coincide with the vulnerable being vaccinated

There is light which is great. It may go to plan, some things may be delayed. But at least we have an idea of what will happen in what order.

MoirasRoses · 22/02/2021 21:58

@DownstairsMixUp - yep, currently me! I had flu at the start of Jan that landed me in hospital. 6 weeks later, I’m about 50% my usual wellness. My breathing is shit, I’m so tired just going up & down stairs. Yet on I plod, no-one cares I have long-flu ha. My doctor calls it post-viral. Exactly what it is. I’m unlucky this is my second hospital needing flu I’ve caught & last time it was 2/3 months before I felt well & myself. I’m not worrying about it at all. Just need time to recover from a nasty illness.

I’m plodding on. I look after my young kids. I work. I cook. I clean. You just get on with life don’t you.

No-one wants to get sick OP but were you this concerned pre-covid? Illness is a fact of life unfortunately.
