Opening Up - they're already taking it back?

Boris was on earlier responding to a question as to why we can't open once we have vulnerable groups 1-9 vaccinated - which would represent 99% of deaths and 80% of hospitalizations - and he essentially said that we can't simply open up at that point as not all of those individuals will choose (or be able) to be vaccinated. As in, at all. Ever. So what do we do then? Continue this horror until every vulnerable person takes a vaccination?

Surely once vaccines are AVAILABLE to all vulnerable persons, the rest of the country MUST be permitted to re-enter society and resume a normal life?

Have I misunderstood what he said? Because if I haven't, he's basically just admitted in the Commons that they don't have any real plan to actually open up (unless they compel vaccination, which is another story).

@myrtleWilson

Where did they say 12th April for museums. In the guidance that was released around the time of PM statement to the House it says 17th May
It was everywhere in the news, effectively cut/pasted from guidance, which has been updated now. Here's a news source which doesn't appear to have been "fixed" online yet.

news.sky.com/story/covid-19-when-every-lockdown-rule-is-set-to-lift-in-england-12225770

Pasted section:

Step Two: 12 April

• Non-essential retail, including hairdressers and beauty salons, can reopen

• Libraries, museums, zoos, theme parks and gyms can open - but no indoor mixing of different households allowed

• Outdoor hospitality can reopen, including pubs and restaurants - with the rule of six or a larger group from two households

• Customers will not have to buy a substantial meal to have an alcoholic drink and there will be no curfew but people will have to be seated when ordering and eating or drinking

• Self-catering holidays in the UK with your own household will be allowed

• Funerals of up to 30 people. Weddings and wakes of up to 15 people.

I’m not saying stay in lockdown, but I am suggesting that ppl think a little more broadly about who hasn’t had the vaccine and why they might not have had it (yet) at any point in time.

Not everyone who has not taken the vaccine by summer is antivax...
@itsmymess - I don’t think there is indecision- the plan is clear, and each step is dependent on success at the previous stage.

My understanding is that unvaccinated people still benefit from the herd immunity created by vaccinations. So anti-vaxxers who fail to get their children immunised against childhood diseases, for example, "piggy-back" on the protection provided by the fact that most responsible parents do choose to immunise their children. But that relies on a critical mass of vaccinations being reached to essentially put the breaks on community transmission. So there have been outbreaks of common childhood diseases like measles in areas where vaccinations have fallen below that critical mass.

Even if the vaccine is ineffective for some people and others choose not to or are unable to have it, these people will be better protected by higher numbers of the rest of us being vaccinated. Hence the delay until we reach 70-80%.

Yeah. Ruined my wife’s day. Really gut wrenching having something taken away. She works in Museums industry and had started planning for 12th April. Sent emails etc.

They will blame media outlets, but they’ve u turned as probably some Tories thought too much was in 12th April waves. And gyms trump museums clearly...

Definitely originally 12 April.
It's just constant lies
