Can I insist on the same vaccine for my 2nd dose?

I’m aware that vaccine centres are giving out whatever they have available but how will that work for 2nd doses?

Surely if your first dose was Pfizer, that should be the one you have for the 2nd dose too as Pfizer and Astra Zeneca work in different ways? How will that work logistically though?

Is there any trials of how giving a different vaccine as a 2nd dose works and any side effects/interactions?

They have started trials but no results available yet.

ILookAtTheFloor · 22/02/2021 14:43

You will get the same one.

doireallyneedaname · 22/02/2021 14:46

You are guaranteed the same one apparently. For now.

It's all very wishy washy information though?

I have just been offered the jab later in March. I'm jolly grateful as I'm an unpaid Carer and have Sleep Apnoea so use a CPap at night.
I'd prefer to know which one in advance (a choice would be ideal but I appreciate that beggars can't be choosers).

I'd rather they didn't 'mix n match' 2nd doses unless there is rigorous clinical evidence that this is safe and effective though?

Flippyferloppy · 22/02/2021 14:51

No need to insist, it's what you'll get automatically

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 22/02/2021 14:53

You’ll get the same one. Trials about mixing vaccines are happening now, but mixing won’t happen until the results are know (and are positive).

Kitkat151 · 22/02/2021 14:56

You will get the same one

HoneyIShrunkMyAss · 22/02/2021 15:08

Oh that’s great to hear.

Thanks!

I think they are permitted to use a different vaccine in exceptional circumstances but that won't happen normally.
I believe there are trials afoot to mix and match and they hope to find it will actually give better results.
