Apologies if this has already been said.
I've literally not left the house in fear of catching coronavirus. I have a chronic health issue but I'm not vulnerable.
I'm lucky as I can work remotely.
Work are keen to get us back to the office (it's a big organisation). Every time they have tried this it's fallen flat with more lock downs. From the start of the pandemic they didn't understand and got us all in to a massive lecture theatre to tell us it was going to be fine 🤦🏼‍♀️
I want to go back to work but my anxiety about catching covid is through the roof and it's because I have been so careful. I don't want to go back to work until I get my vaccine.
We are all so close it's palpable. The thought of returning without a vaccine is upsetting me and worrying me.
My question is can work make me go back in say March knowing that by June/July I'll have had the jab?

I'm sorry to sound precious. I was a teacher and my most of my friends and family are on the 'frontline'

Have you asked about continuing to WFH ?
Have they done a risk assessment ?

Worknoplay · 22/02/2021 11:59

I also think that you need to look at a full risk assessment which will include your health condition.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so anxious OP.

However, I don't think there is going to be any change in the government advice to 'work from home if you can' for some months- maybe even into the Autumn - which will likely turn into Spring 2022 as we have been warned that some restrictions being needed next Winter. Perhaps we'll hear more tonight from Boris on this.

I just can't see office workers piling onto public transport to work, non-socially distanced, no masks e.t.c...for at least another year!

CeibaTree · 22/02/2021 12:18

I think some companies have interpreted the 'work home home if you can' advice quite loosely. I know a few people who are having to go into their work even though they could theoretically work from home as their companies are saying they are needed on site and can't work from home (these are admin type jobs that definitely are not customer facing etc). So it depends really on how hardline your company are being. But I think if you emailed them with your health concerns they would have to let you work from home for fear of being sued by you if you did get the virus at work. Are you a member of a union? Maybe seek their advice if you are.

What help are you getting for your anxiety? Work may be more willing to make alternative arrangements if you can explain the support you’re currently getting?

Mindymomo · 22/02/2021 12:32

I think that if you’ve had both jabs, it will be expected that people can return to work in the office. Where my son works, after the first lockdown last year, management tried to get people back and those that didn’t want to return were offered redundancy. I don’t think any announcement will be made about this until cases are a lot lower than they are now.

Thank you everyone for your kind responses ♥️ I was worried I'd be told I'm being difficult.
My anxiety hasn't always been this bad but the constant awful stories about covid and long covid have finished me off.
I have inflammatory bowel disease so my immune system isn't great and I am currently waiting for surgery. However I'm not vulnerable and I'm only 37. I look fit and healthy but my mental health has taken a battering.
We had one risk assessment last April but I have no idea what I wrote and I feel times have changed especially with new variants.
We had a townhall today and I'm shocked. Basically it's been seen as a green light from march onwards to get us in.
I think you're right that little will change in terms of working from home until at least the autumn.
I am not part of a union, which I'm now regretting.
HR are awful I was diagnosed last year with my illness and asked to get it logged and got ignored.
However I will now contact HR and see what they can do
Thank you everyone x
