The vulnerable have not been vaccinated

I keep reading on here and in various other sources that the vulnerable have been vaccinated.

This is just not true. Very few have received 2 doses.

Some, like me, are yet to have the opportunity to book their first, yet are expected to teach face to face lessons in 2 weeks time.

The vulnerable have not been vaccinated.

70 miles to the nearest regional hub. We can’t book online yet at all which I assume is something to do with local shortages. A few friends with elderly parents are just saying they are getting done. Our practice is only a week into over 70s and they are the town hub.
I have vulnerable friends in other parts of the country who were done a month ago.
I think this is a knock on to the brilliant government decision to limit availability in the NE.

MrsFezziwig · 22/02/2021 13:53

My area is stuck on the 65-69’s (we are rural and apparently a lot of group 5 are refusing to travel to large centres and want the local gp to jab them). CV group 6 not yet started.

But surely if they don’t accept the opportunity of an appointment further away then the GPs should open up the appointments to Group 6 so they can book a hub - although your 60-65s must be a strange lot, without their own transport or someone to take them - I’m in that group, and happily took an appointment in the next city for a day out if nothing else! As did all my friends in the same group.

Can Group 6 book online yet or is it still via GP invite? (when we got to Group 5 the online booking just opened automatically, not reliant on GPs).

Icytundra · 22/02/2021 13:58

How does everyone know what group their area is on? Is it just by conversations with people?

I'd love to know how my area is doing

I thought ECV should definitely be able to book online - are you sure he is coded in the correct group? (even the national site says that group 4 is available online). It should be a national site so not dependent on regional variations in supplies, apart from not being able to offer you anything close. But it sounds like a potential mistake in not putting him in group 4, if he's EVC and shielding. It can be hard to confirm with GPs though as they don't want to field phone calls about stuff like that, but if someone is really vulnerable, there must be a way to check if they've been missed.

Sidewalksue · 22/02/2021 14:35

I read other on here have had the same issue. He’s definitely ECV. He’s not been anywhere since last March at all. He’s considered a ‘special’ patient at the GPs. Not being able to even ask is very frustrating tinf.

My GP tweets where they are up to in vaccinations.

Thimbleberries · 22/02/2021 15:05

Can the 119 booking service help at all? You might at least get to talk to someone to explain.

Haenow · 22/02/2021 16:10

@HazeyJaneII and others with children who are CEV, the vaccine can be given off licence to children if a medical professional (usually a consultant) agrees. Please do speak to them, if you haven’t, and please push for full answers if they say no. Flowers

MerlinsSaggyLeftTit · 22/02/2021 16:31

MIL received her first dose today. She lives with us as she is on end of life care with MS (but doesn't qualify as CEV), and I have primary aged children. I'd rather she had both doses and time for them to take effect before schools go back, but one is better than nothing and definitely takes the pressure we've felt over the last year off a little.

OP did you see this?

I couldn’t agree more OP - the vulnerable have not yet all been vaccinated.

Do you know anyone under 16 that has been vaccinated? Because every one I know (including ds) has been told no. Even on forums for children, where there are quite a few cev children I haven't seen anyone whose child has had one.

RhubarbCrumbling · 22/02/2021 17:19

Teacher here. group 6. Was CEV until a Gp took me off and overruled the Gov and consultant. No vaccine.

Guess who will be filling up hospital beds - at least there may be free ventilators now for unvaccinated vulnerable and I think treatments have reduced the risk of dying by a few percent. Long covid - NHS not interested.

Group 5 here. Sadly group 6 in our area can only be booked by Gp ( are they being paid extra I wonder?). I imagine in my county group 7 being able to book themselves before group 6 done by Gp’s.

But it is ok, you cannot see a Gp face to face as - oh there a risk? But schools they are safe.

Sidewalksue · 22/02/2021 17:56

DH rang 119 and said he should have been vaccinated but it’s a supply and demand issue and he should contact his GP. However the GP website says they haven’t started vulnerable people specifically yet. So we will wait more then...

Haenow · 22/02/2021 17:57

@HazeyJaneII

I’ve heard of a few teenagers (under 16) with immune deficiencies. Possibly doctors will be more cautious with younger children.

I’m sorry though. I can’t imagine the worry you must feel. The protection and safety CEV children should be a priority.

minniemoocher · 22/02/2021 18:01

Not everyone has been vaccinated but the majority are, those over 65 have been able to book for a while, drs are working hard through group 6 and in some areas particularly London according to people posting, 50+ are being called. Most of the teachers, police officers etc in my town have been vaccinated using end of the day "spares". There's outstanding issues with the housebound in certain areas. My dd got called (cv) today and I did as her carer.

I know where my gp surgery is up to as I had an appointment trace to face last week and asked, tried to gauge when I'd be called.
minniemoocher · 22/02/2021 18:03

Dd is group 6, dp's dd is also group 6 but hasn't been called, I suspect due to surname, same gp

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/02/2021 18:04

@CometCupidDonnerBlitzen

I have been vaccinated after being flagged for a history of GD in pregnancy. However my husband who has been shielding since last March has not been. After finally speaking to a doctor at the end of last week he was told that he was removed from the list on the 6th of November. Two days after receiving a shielding letter. After being removed he didn't get any further updates so he was unaware he had been downgraded from 4 to 6. The doctor agreed based on his medical history he needs it soon but is unable to flag him for the national hubs now. So instead we are having to wait for a space at the surgery. I'm genuinely concerned he wouldn't survive covid, as is he.

What are we supposed to do about the kids returning to school on the 8th? Is anyone in a similar position and not sending them back?

@CometCupidDonnerBlitzen Mine have been at home with me since last March.

My consultant wrote a letter along the lines of "MilesJupp is CEV, and has expressed a wish to home-school for now. I hope you will support her in this. Quite non-commital (as she'd been told not to do this), but enough for the school.

Ridiculous problems with availability and regional differences. We live in Norfolk. Due to shortages of supply, two ECV people I know were told they could be vaccinated if they went to BRIGHTON!!!!

(Don't know how long they were looking at waiting otherwise- wish I'd asked.)

Powaqa · 22/02/2021 18:24

I am CEV and I have only just been able to book my vaccine for 28 Feb. My friend, who is 45, no issues was vaccinated today, he lives 5 miles away. My mum is 70, she hasn't been offered hers yet but she lives in Wales

piggywaspushed · 22/02/2021 18:35

I am fed up of reading 'the vulnerable have all been vaccinated' too OP. I hear you. DH is vulnerable ,and a teacher. Apparently they have 'all been vaccinated'.

But then when you hear the vaccine minster this morning twice claiming that they will all be done by mid April which is therefore 3 weeks before the schools go back(Sky) or 'all adults over 50 have been vaccinated' (BBC), what do we expect ??

phlebasconsidered · 22/02/2021 18:44

@MrsFezziwig in my rural area we are still on 65 plus. And will be for some time. Only the hubs are vaccinating so all elderly with no one to drive them have to use hub or special transport. Our remote village has had volunteers driving them. It will take fucking ages.

And in the meantime this asthmatic teacher is already in a bubble of 25 and back to 35 in 2 weeks. I can expect my vaccine, if I qualify, in May or June according to my GP.

People often have no idea what rural areas are really like, they just think.of suburbs. Our nearest GP is 10 miles away. Our nearest hub 18. With no bus service.

phlebasconsidered · 22/02/2021 18:48

@Lancrelady80 you must not be far from me. Fuck all vaccine in the East. It's all in the big towns and cities. Fuck us, eh?

Thimbleberries · 22/02/2021 18:50

Cant see why Norfolk people should be told to go to Brighton! Madness. There's plenty of capacity in the larger cities/towns in the east, where people are booking easily for the next day at Superdrug, shopping centres, community areas, etc. Still not ideal for the rural areas, for sure, but a hell of a lot closer than Brighton!

My best friend is in Devon and is a cancer patient. She's not yet been vaccinated but apparently she can be if she can get to Brighton. Its bloody ridiculous.
